SAN FRANcIsco, Cal, Nov. 19.-Stanford made its only score in just three Stanford rooters were as coclSy as the flea who had his breakfast on the lip of lion. Stanford made its first, last and only flash at scoring in those three minutes After that Stanford put in most of the afternoon trying to keep the score down. No team in big game ever got better break in the luck than Stanford got in that opening kickoff. The ball was kicked nearly to the line and Toomey should have let it roll over for a touchback. But he caught the ball and tried to run it back. He was tackled hard by Campbell and dropped the ball as he fell. 1t was ghastly for California, for Stanford had the ball only yard from the last chalk mark. with four tries to put II cNei tHc uoSS an iitSu anu frisky. Three fierce assaults on the line were repulsed with not an inch gained, and then Capt Patrick shot through the air, leaping over the shoulders of the CAL ifornia forward He fell on his face. with the ball under him. He was just over the line, and Stanford had scored it’s only touchdown of the day. Late in the game, when it was grow ing dark. Brickmuller put on Won derful exhibition of throwing, but none of the long heaves We’re caught. He did show that no matter II his leg Is weak his throwing arm is still strong. Dearoot played a steady game at cen tire for Stanford. Big Ludeke played himself out trying to stave off defeat and had TO be taken out of the game in the fourth quarter. Faville also played himself into the ground. Patrick gave all he hod SO did Wilcos and Doughty and. in fact, every man on the Stanford team. But eleven individuals, not matter how powerful they are and how game they are and how willing they are. cannot stand off a machine in which clever men get into every play and offer a front as smooth and hard as marble pillar Stanford’s day will come, but right now the boys on the farm are up against hard luck for California happens tc have one of the very best teams in the country.
