Cornell Submerges Colgate Following g An Early Surprise Ithacans, Superior in All but kickine and End De. fense, Win by 81 to z ITHACA, N. Y, Oct. 22.-Colgate surprised Cornell in the first two minutes of to-day’s game and scored the first touchdown of the year made against the Ithacans. But once Dobie’s machine got going on all six cylinders score Of 81 to z. The Ithacans were much superior 70 the Maroon in all departments but kicking and end defense, and Colgate found no means OF stopping the brill liant Eddie Kaw, who, with sometimes perfect interference, lodged and twisted his way for many big gains. Less spectacular, but very useful were che line plunges of Ramsey and Lechler, Ramsel’s defensive play and Pfann’s running with the forward pass. Except for fumbles, OF which they made six, Ccrnell’s play was all pressive, if not always consistent. A crowd of 15, 900 saw the game, including hun dreds of alumni and guests. Kaw fumbled on the second play Welch dropping on the ball on Cornell’s 2o-yard line, the Maroons spread out across the field and on criss-cross ! Webster went around right end for s touchdown. The Comedians, however came back in a hurry, evening the score in the first period on series of runs by Kaw, Ramsey and Pfann, 15-yard pass, Kaw to Pfann, and then pass from Kaw to Munns scoring. In the second period, after Kaw broke away for 30-yard run, going out of bounds on the one-yard line Lechler went over for the score Open ing the third, Colgate rallied and stopped two Cornell drives. But Han son managed to kick a field goal from the 26-yard line, the first of his career on the varsity. Colgate was firing rapidly now under the fierce Cornell attack and under the hard charging of a rugged Cornell line, and was unable to check the next march down the field which ended with Ramsey scoring on a line plunge. The Maroon resorted to the forward passing game frequently in the last two periods, but it worked disastrous ly. Gouinlock intercepted pass on Colgate’s 30-yard line and ran to the ten-yard line. On the next play Kaw lodged through for touchdown. The fine-nD:
