MANY ERRORS IN PRINCETON PLAY Tigers Show Early Season Faults in Beating Swarth- more, Says Strubing INTERFERENCE excellent by trimming Swarthmorc. 21–7. The little Quakcrs made gallant fight of it. but were simply crushed by over whclmng power. Not by team power, but by collection Of individuals who for the most part played n ragged, most disorganzCd game. Outside Of a few outstanding feature plays, Princeton was very disappointing. In the first place. the Tigers didn’t J know the signals. The game was an ! lovingly DELAYED because Of this. and ! IN the first quarter a missed signal on | frn”otOn’S 1J-yard line almost cost ! her. touchdown. First game of the season is no excuse for missing signals | when they were given to team two weeks before. ! PrinCcton’s forwards were poor get ting down the field and covering kicks. The first play of the matinee. White carried PrnCptOn’S kick off back 40 yards. to be stopped finally by Lourie, | the last man between him and the last chalk mark. Swarthmorc ran tho other kick off on | an average Of – yards. Gcigcs car RED n punt through the entire Tiger | “utht – yards for a touchdown. Then, also. the Swarthmorc backs carried the other puntS back 10 to II yards before they were stopped. This was not due so much to lack of speed in the Prinr”ton forwards. but more to poor covering due to too much speed. Time and again ] saw potential taclilCr carried right past the man with the bah, the Tiger unable to change dircc. tl”n, he was going so fast Then there were always two or three Of them standing around, seeming to think that II was somebody elSe’s turn to get into the play. Garnet line Battles The Princeton line was somewhat | hahed by the play of the Swarthmore me lime and again they were car rl’d yards back before they could break through. Mercer coaches his limo to charge shoulder to shoulder, bur ON th”lr feet and hands. In other words. 1t ; crawling charge. and very hard one 20 handle. because the offensive line aeIdoih gets above the level of the knee “t IN” defense. At the same time good gaIIS VIII never be made through this hlhd or charging, because the line cam NOT progress more than 3 or 1 wards. ana can open any holes at nll Princeton made very little ground through the center of the line. but ran ar31un! end and off tackle almost nj WI WiII’ In” reason for this was obvious me .SSWarthm0re men were “grabbing L’gS, IhlS effectively plugs the center or the line, but eliminates the center defensive men from any other play. such as messing up the interference before II mas had chance to form. The ONLY way to break up the style of line play which tn” Garnet DISPLAYED is 70 sten on EN-, and this the Tigers did with gIco. But those Little QuakcrS must be made Of rubber because, although they were clawcd to ribbons. they al ways bounded up sharply and happily. y good fighting bunch Good Interference The Tiger line did not look so good However. the men who came out Of the line and joined the interference for the end runs worked like ClOckwOrk ard practraIIy always got their man. ANY back can carry the ball if he has proper protection, and prinCetOn’s interference | wa, good. The flying end took his man well. with this man out of the yay the roSt Of the interference cut a clean SWath. ‘iiIroy is a wonder at the game OF taking men out. Time and lgaia lie took two men during the play and rrcc he collected three. The Nassau ends played a GOOD came | on the whole with exception of covering the kicks. The substitutes for this part Of the team are weak. Tyson .ookcd somewhat like an end. but VIM ccrtainIy has TO work to develop Il second ! pair Of wings who can stand the gaff .f big game. The fourth back TrimbIc was seeking seems 10 b” found. Van Gcrbig pIaved very nice gene. II” carries I’ll” bali ! well and can kick and pass. He is n ! hghtor, too. The three veteran huckS
