HOWARD ELEVEN HOLDS AUBURN TIGERS TO 34 TO SCORl ALABAMA RALLIES M LAST HALF AND BEATS SPRING HILL PAINTERS M EFT 5. P. U. ELEVEN AT RICKWOOD FRIDAY. Birmingham Southern Team Made Great Show Against AggieS Last Friday Birmingham is in for another good football game this week, when the Birmingham Southern Partners take on the boys from Southwestern Pres byterian university in little foot ball fracas at Redwood field Friday. Southwestern has about the same class team as Birmingham Southern. and they should be able to give the Panthers something in the way of a good argument Friday. The Panther outfit this year is full of new faces, owing to the fact that some of the starriest stars on the whole team left the school. shorty Propst went to Alabama. Eddie Lewis. the brilliant punter, went to Carne- gie Tech. Hodge graduated, so,it can easily be seen that the Birmingham- Southern squad of this year is com posed of large number of men who have not been accustomed to the Panther uniform. The team is green. but nevertheless it is fast hard fighting aggrega- tion. and what It lacks in weight and experience it will easily make up in good old fighting spirit and whole lot of grit and endurance. As evil dence of this is the A. & M game, which was played last Friday In this game 1t was case of lighter men. who did not have much experience going against heavy, well balanced eleven. which had two or three years experience to fall back on in case of tight finish. However, even with these things against them, the game Partners went in and fought the whole game as they had never fought before, the result being that they were able to hold the Maroons to a 20-to7 score. There is only one bad thing con nected with this battle, and that was the injury of Bagley the fighting plvot man, who had his leg broken. In losing Bagley for the greater bart Of the season, the Panthers have lost one of the best linesmen in the state. Tor he Is a man who goes in fighting and stays in until some one drags him out. Turning to the optimistic side of the team, we find that the Partners have some able backfield men in the persons of Griffin, Miller and Cap tain Norton. while on the line they have Big Hoss” and a nice looking bunch of new men out of which to form a brick wall against which op- posing backs may break their ambi- tious domes. The s. P. U. gang may beat the Panthers. but if they do they will be aware Of having been in a football game. and the battle will be worth witnessing, whether they win. lose or draw.
