Cornhuskers Defeat Old Enemies, Missouri Tigers Nebraska Team Overcomes Early Lead and Goes Ahead in Second Quarter, Increasing Lead in Third Quarter, Opponents Scoring Three in This Session; Neither Squad Counts in Final Period Columbia, Mo-, Nov. 8.-(Special Telegram)-Pounding home two touchdowns and a substantial lead early, the Cornhuskers today won their first victory of the season by taking the measure of the Missouri Tigers on Rollins field, by score of IL to S. The scores were counted by Dale and Henry. The loss Of Anton Stankowski captain and quarterback for the Missouri, squadron, shortly after the opening of the game counted heavily on the morale of the Missourians. Running down on punt the Tiger captain fell and broke his right leg Just above the ankle bone. The Husker scores were made in the second and third quarters. Both followed a battering-ram attack, in which the line plunglng of big Fred Dale, 205-pound fullback, played an important part, figured largely. Dale made a run towards the middle OF the third quarter, while Henry darted 81 yards across the goal line at the opening of the second, The Missouri scores were gifts. Tigers Score Safety. Quarterback Newman, in receiving long punt by Lewis, the Mizzo end ran behind his goal line in an attempt to cvade a Missouri tackle. He was tackled from behind, and the ball being carried back of his own goal line, counted safety and two points for the Tigers. Lewis drop-kicked in the second game. The game was played on a water sogged, sluggish field. The conduct of the Missouri team was SINH lar to that of the Huskers in their battle with Iowa State at Lincoln last week, sluggish and lacking the usual SHOW me” pep. Except Ill two or three instances, when for. ward passes worked with unusual accuracy, the Tigers did not contribute to the thrill. Nebraska play, on the other hand: with five substitutes i’ll the line and back field, was a logged fight from the start. Only once during the entire encounter did the Huskets tumble the ball and this once cost the Scarlet and Cream but very lit. tie. Nebraska worked forward passes for an approximate OF llC Yards, adding much to the brilliance of the Huskers’ offensive. The Tigers completed four of eight at tempts. Newman at Quarter. Captain Dobon. Nebraska leader did not enter. Newman at quarter oficiated in the general stuff and that his work was we’ll done is com mented on on all sides in Columbia “Some quarterback, you have there, is the usual remark that is directed at the few Husker rooters in town Dale also is being complimented as “some fullback.” The Huskers, early in the game looked like a minus factor. In the first quarter Nebraska brought the ball to the Missouri 34-yard line and subsequently lost the ball on downs. 1t was strange back held
