HARVARD PLAYS PRINCETON TIE CAME, 10 TO 10 Judged Most Thrilling Game Ever Staged in Palmer Memorial Stadium; 10000 Fans Present. Princeton, N. J.. Nov. S.-Harvard and Princeton played a 10 to 10 tie game today in what was probably the most thrilling foot ball contest ever staged in Palmer Memorial Stadium. The thirty or more thousands spectators were in al most constant pitch of excite ment as the teams fought their way through the game. The Cambridge eleven on the short end of score almost all the way. staged wonderful come back and playing desperately I’M the last minutes OF the contest, STAYED off defeat and tied the score. There was a breathless moment, when Church, of Harvard, carefully sur veyed the angle he had to kick and then swiftly but surely sent the pigskin between the goal posts that gave the fighting Crimson team its tenth point. .,. While Harvard must be satisfied with the result of the game, the fact that the team failed to win was keen disappointment to her followers. Rated as one Of the most powerful elevens in the east, her supporters looked for victory over Princeton which had lost the last two games it played. The fact that Harvard had an easy schedule prior to today’s game was dis counted by the Crimsons enthusiasts who pointed to the large scores the team has made as show ing the power and drive behind her style of play. Princeton was immensely pleased with the game. In fact many Of her followers consider the result “a \ victory. With poor record so far as the season has gone, thousands of her supporters did not look for success, and the showing made was a surprise. Adopt Forward Passing. It was evident that Princeton took ia leaf from the book of experience, for Immediately after the game started it adopted the tactics played against it by the West Virginia team last Saturday. when the Tigers were carried off their feet by the splen did forward passing of the Noun taineers. Using Trimble and Struhing exclusively in : this work, Princeton, with few other variatons in carrying the ball, took the pigskin from its own 20-yard line right down the field for a touch down early in the first period. It’s playing completely took the Grim son men by surprise. Harvard fought desperately to stop the play, but the fighting Nassau, team never !, faltered until the ball was planted behind the goal posts by Trimble, \ who got it from Strubing on lat cral pass. Harvard in the third period prof tied by a Princeton tumble and managed to work the ball close enough to the goal line to permit Horween, who was sent in to make the play, to kick field goal from Princeton’s 28-yard line. Bad Pass Opens Way. A bad pass and blocked kick in the final period gave Princeton another opportunity to score which she accepted, F. L. Murrey going in and booting the ball for a field goal, which raised her total points to 10. Harvard followers lost heart at this disaster, but the team did not. Princeton started a punting game, Harvard finally got the ball close to her opponents territory and adopting Princeton’s aerial game varied by few line plunges carried the pigskh over the Tiger line and put the Crimson men in a position to easily tie the score with the goal from touchdown. Halfback Trimble and CHARTER back Strubing we’re easily the stars of the Orange and Black team. Their forward passing seldom missed fire and long gains were made every time. the ball was successfully hurled. Captain McGraw also played Won derful game. F. L. Murrey, the drop kick expert came up to expectations when he was sent in to try field goal when the ball was close enough for the play. 1t was an easy try as the pigskin was d. rectly in front Of the goal posts. Casey, who was used more than any other player on the Harvard team, stood out as the bright par ticular star for the Cambridge eleven. He seldom failed to make his dis lance when called upon and put across the touchdown that helped tie the score. He was ably assisted by FELTON,. who took Captain Muir. fay’s place, in forward passing Ralph Horween. substituting fol- Burnham, also came through i’ll tine style when called upon for f1ele goal. Started Drive. After Princeton had made the score 10 points on Murray’s field goa Harvard started her powerful drive that warded off defeat. With shor’ plunpes through center and tackle positions, interpreted with forward passes. the Crimson steadily pluggee the ball two-thirds down the fielo until it was over the goal line. The scene as the Cambridge eleven tiec the score was the widest witnessed in the concrete stadium since it wa; built. With but few minutes left both teams fought desperately te break the tie, but neither had the power to put across the winning points. The 10 points scored by Prince ton today are the first that have been made against Harvard thi: wear. Since the two teams resumed football relations in 1911, Harvard has won five games and Princeton one. Princeton’s victory was tina scored in 1911. Harvard won. TIN next five contests. Because OF tn war the teams did not meet in l9l The weather today was ideal TO foot ball, but the stadium was no

TIES WITH HARVARD Crimson Gives Exhibition of Frenzied Football Near Finish Time Princeton, N. J., Nov. 10. = For fifty-six minutes Saturday Harvard stared into the eyes of defeat, a fascinated victim. In the fifty-seventh minute the Crimson awoke, turned her fair face away from disaster and with a burst of frenzied football scored the touchdown which enabled her to achieve 10 to 10 tie with Princeton. Better Harvard teams have been clawed at by the Tigers than the one which thrilled 10000 football-mad spectators in the Palmer Stadium Saturday. More accomplished Ben gal elevens have been Gagged by Johnny Harvard than the group which held the powerful visitors to deadlock this afternoon. But in all the glorious football history, of these ancient rivals no more bitter and thrilling combat has been staged than the one which was played in Palmer Stadium Saturday. Each team scored touchdown, q goal from touchdown and a field goal. Princeton was the first to count, putting over a touchdown in the first period, after a might eighty yard march. In the third period a Princeton tumble enabled Harvard to get the ball on Princeton’s 20 yard line. After three attempts to gain from scrimmage had netted only four yards, Horween dropped back to the 25-yard line and booted a beautiful goal for Crimson’s first three points. Princeton added field goal to her achievements in that eventfu1 fourth period. A blocked Harvard kick gave the Bengals the ball on Harwards 7-yard line. Three thrusts at the line failed to net an inch, and then Murray was rushed in to drop kick the oval over. He did it from the 1S-yard line. With but four minutes to play, Harvard got pos session of the ball on her 30-yard line, inaugurated an offensive move ment with a forward pass for 4e yards, and did not halt until the ball had been placed behind Priuceton’s goal line.
