GEORGETOWN WINS FROM NAVY, SO VIv III iii vNI Two Goals From Field by Maioney Margin of VIC I tory at Annapolis. McQUADE IN STAR ROLE ANNAPOLIS, Md. November s. Beaten baGh under its own goal posts by the powerful attack of the Navy and compelled to struggle desperately twice in the first period to stave oil touchdowns. Georgeto towns foot ball team today fought its way in the fourth period to an advantage which gave ii opportunities to kick two field goals and defeat the Midshipmen by s to O. The vicious line attack of the Sailors was effective. but not sufficiently SO TO overcome the remarkable prove SIS OF Capt. McQuade. Georgetownts star halfbaCk in that march he staged al most unaided down the field to the Nays 5-yard line and the field goals which resulted from Maloney’S accurate kicking. But OF the players, more anon. Georgetown won from the Navy mainly BECAUSE Coach t.Xentiine took advantage OF the weakness of Dobie’s defense, and had Maloncy used the weapon in the fiTft half which EXendine had prepared for him the score would have been larger. Navy’s Defense Too Compact. The Navy. under Dobie. uses a defense such as is prevalent in the northwest, bun which is not sufficiently elastic to protect It’s territory against quick kicks just behind the liue OF srrimmaee. 1t was this play which spelled the undoing OF the Navy. The Sailors sec oIdary defense was too compact and when Maloney and McQuade punted drem that close formation the ball usual HsWent far over the heads of the Navy players and rolled 60 or 65 yards down the neid. Ground was Won in that way winch put the Blue and Gray in a position to start their march to the o-yard hlle and the consequent field goal The second Held goal was made by Malorey a1ter a penalty OF han the distance to.’he goal line had been inflicted on the Navy for rough play. = Georgetown kicked off to NAVY to Open the game, after the teams had come on the field twenty minutes late Fbecause of their inability to agree on of8c!als. Clark fumpied tie u..I. b.. p1eked 1t up and ran TO the S25-yard line Right in the beginning the Navy began to make mistakes. 1t gained yards on three downs and IN It’s own territory ran the ball on Fourth down instead of kicking. 1t GOT away with me gain that time but IN. attempting to make the next first down in the same way was held. The Dali went over TO Geor setown at Nays 4S-yard line instead of being punted We’ll down into Georgetown’s S territory. And when the two teams lined up, with the bah in Georgelown-s pos session. the Blue and Gray made the same Kind OF a biunder. 1t failed TO gam. and on the fourth down at tempted a forward pass instead of trying to boot the ball out of bounds somewhere around the 10-yard line. THE forward PASS was grounded and Navy got the ball. That mistake came near being Georgetown’s undoirG. because right then the Midshipmen began a march toward Georgetown goal. which wAs not interrupted until it had reached the 7-yard line. With the bali practically under the Blue and Gray posts. the Navy forward passed the goal line for a touchback, the pass being incompleted. Georgetown put the ball in play on the 20-yard line. was held and punted. Navy. received the Kick and again started toward the Blue and Gray goal line. Again it got within striking distance and had another incompleted pass across the last half mark for touch back. That was about the last real opportunity the Navy had for touchdown The second quarter was evenly tougft and the end of the half found the ball IN the middle of the field. .Hilltoppers Gain on Kicking. “a EGn the Two tSGlNS ooe iOh the second half ii was evident that Georgetown had been given dehnlte instructions to kick more. Anyway, it used the kicking game more IRE Quently. and surely il began TO put the Navy at disadvantage. Time after time the long. low kicks went over the close-playing Navy’s sec ondary defense and rolled deep down into Navy territory. from where the Navy was compelled to waste its energy in attempts to drive the ball back to the middle of the field. Jus. at the end of the third period Navy was compelled to bick from its ewn twenty-five yard line. The ball \ went to Georgetowns 4o-yard line, but the Navy ends were too anxious. and they grabbed McQuade before the latter got the ball. Consequently Navy drew a 15-yard penalty for interference with an opportunity for fair catch. George town then found itself in possession of the bal on Navy’s i5-yard line. started a series of fierce battering drives into the Navy’s line. Time after time the brilliant Blue and Gray back literally hurled himself at the opposing line and tore his way yards by main strength and indiyiduai cleverness. 1t seemed that each plunge into the line would end the ground gaining because the strain of such advancing of the ball is greater than any man can consistently bear. But not so with NC. Ouade as he covered every yard OF that 40 yards of desperate piunslns and might have got the pan across the remaining yards TO tne d soa line had Maloney continued TO send hin, in on the off-tackle plays on the strong side which had gained most OF the ground. instead of trying 10 hit the weak side OF the line Maloney Makes Good. But Naloney made good with “a s,or, sufficiently large to win even s. III he had not later added three more uoints. Stopped on the o-yard me: George, own held a brief moment OF consultation and Maloney dropped hack to try for Il fed goal stand : ing at the ls-yard line. with perfect support from blocking ilne, ne MT ed the ball squarely between ‘he Near the end of the game George town Intercepted Navy forward ! PASS in the center of the held anu the Navy eleven was pena!ized 1or rough work The Sailors held again. and Maloney dropped back TO the 35-yard hne. ano his toe for the second time WITHIN the sixth part of an hour sent the pai uhirIinp evenly between the posts anu over the bar for field goal George towns stands went wild with yells and frantic with the realization of the unexpected. In The closing moments of the game Navy rushed in substitutes and forward passes were tried, but both were in effective Georgetown was battling with all the confidence that goes with a desperate determination to maintain an advantage won after grueling tests Lineup and Summary.

NAVY GOAT LOSES JOB. Bill Lets Georgetown Win and Draws His Release. Annapolis, Md, Nov. 11.-Becausc he failed to make good on his first public appearance and allowed Georgetown to win from the Naval Academy last Saturday, a brown ana white goat with an imposing beard will not go to the Polo Grounds on November 29 as the mascot of the Navy team. “We’ve shelved him and have a big white goat” Mike Curley,, chce” leader, said yesterday. The new mascot has a wicked eye and an evil disposition. It is believed that he will have a deeper sense of the responsibilities which devolye upon him than had his predecessor. He will be seen on the Polo Grounds in the glory of the finest robe a goat ever wore and with horns painted blue and gold The football squad went to work yesterday afternoon with the deter imitation to benefit by the defeat from Georgetown on Saturday.
