! PRLNCETON-HARVARD CAME THE MIGHTY c. SEASON FAILURE IF PENN LOSES TO PITT Hopes of Championship Dtvndle to Battle to Preuent 1919 From Turning to Disaster Quakers Outplayed Dartmouth but Thre,U Chances A,Uay TWO weeks ago there were castles in 4 the air for the Penn football team. There are still castles in the air. but they have drifted over to the campuses at Dartmouth and Colgate. Penn s dreams vanished with the coming of State College and Dartmouth. There are all kinds of a!ibis that can be offered for the defeats at Franklin Field and the Polo Grounds. but alibis never are printed in record books. Years from now the games will be re. mcmbercd as State. 10: Penn. o: and Dartmouth. 90 Penn. 10. Even after the State reverse there was still chance. still hope to be in on the final accounting but any claim TO the championshipAsvcnt flooie on the Giants ball field Saturday. when the big Green team squeezed out victory by one point margin. Worm Turns The proverbial worm has turned. In stead of struggling for the title the Red and Blue will now fight to save the season from failure. Only vic tory over Pittsburgh Saturday will prevent nineteen nineteen from being a disastrous year in Quaker football annals. Cornell has no mean team. 1he 1thacans have good gridiron cOmbination. but they have taken the count so often that it, will gain little in repu tation for the Folwell machine to snatch win from the Rush coached eleven. The Quakers started the season with material that was considered as cham pionship caliber even by nonpartisan critics. The material has not changed, no injuries have taken stars from the Red and Blue. but the team has tiivvered twice without apparent reason. 1t is just one of the twists of this strange season. World of “lfs” In the world of ifs and might nave bcens” it is easy to figure out how the Quakers could have won in New York. Dartmouth was outplayed, there’s no question about that and chances of additional scores were a-plenty a But when the sun of opportunity was shining there wasn’t enough haymaking. Here are half dozen things Penn might or might not have done and vic tory would have been clnchcd: First Heine Miller might have kicked all three goals from touch = downs. Second. Ray Miller might have kicked the goal from placement in the second period. Offside Hurt Third. Dartmouth might have been prevented from scoring its second and

Dartmouth Wins by One Point Over Penn Eleven New York, Nov. 10.-By the small est possible margin Dartmouth’s foot ball team on Saturday defeated Penn sylvania’s gridiron warriors. Only one point difference was there in the score at the close of hostilities as the shades of night closed in on the Polo Grounds when the final whistle blew. The count was 20 to 10. 1t was one of the most spectacular and exciting games ever played by college teams and 1t was witnessed by a splendid crowd of football lovers. No matter what their preference may have been, no matter how hard they had rooted or how Justify they cheer ed, the result of the game was shrowded in doubt until the very last minute of play. 1t was either team s game from the very start and touch down was followed by touchdown in rapid succession at times, but towards the close Penn was always one point behind. When Jordan intercepted Lights forward pass and ran 60 yards for a touchdown in the third period of play Penn’s fate seemed to be sealed. 1t was the greatest of several sensational plays that were sprinkled through the game. That grand run did not spell defeat for the Red and Blue, however, for the tide turned against Dartmouth in the final period.
