NO ROUGH PLAYING IN PENN-PITT GAME Clean Sport TypiGed in 3–3 Tie BetiUeen Ouakers and Panthers-Bob FoI,oeWs Team Shows Great Defensive PoUerS DENNSYLNANIA has come back 4 Pittsburgh was tied at three on Saturday and once more the Red and Blue is waving in the front ranks along the football battlefield. The Panther and the Quaker fought in one Of the most gripping games ever waged over the chalklincs Of Franklin Field. and rarely have two teams been SO evenly matched. This is one case where the score bespcaks the compare tive strength of the two elevens engagged. The game was hard played from the beginning. II meant much to both teams. and perhaps q bit more to Penn sylvania than TO Pittsburgh. There was terrific driving and piunging. smashing tackling and courageous individual work nil through the sixty minutes of strug Cling: but despite all this. it was one Of the cleanest contests staged in the history of the time houored Penn stadium. No Rough Work The, teams from the two ends of the Keystone state have met five times. and those five games have been splendid examples Of how football should be played in the sense Of clean sport. The Penn Pitt contests have been noted for the” calbcr Of football placed in them. \ The game Oh Saturday was hard, but II wasn’t rough. Several of the players were injured. but they were hurt through the force they put into their own drive o. the force of the opponents S attack. There was no dirty football. and to carry the point still further it can truthfully be said that there was n spirit of frendliness shown between the teams. After. the whistle blew it was not uncommon to see Penn man stoop and aid Panther to his feet or a Panther assist a lad in Red and Blue in un tangling himself from the mass. And there was not too much of the brother stuff. for the next second the same play ers would be knocking each other down. The First Tie Penn already had lost to State, and Dartmouth and Pittsburgh had been trimmed by Syracuse. The Panthers had beaten the Quakers four times straight. and naturally everything opened the avenues to rough play had the men not been imbued with the spirit that is improving the great college game. 1t was the first time tie has resulted from a Quaker Panther con test and also the first time Pitt eleven has been turned back without vic tory. Little Bert Bell and Big Andy Has tings were the ones who put the three points between the uprights for their respective teams. Captain Bells sue cessful effort came in the first period from the “a yard line. while Hastings $ placement goal was made from the 81 yard mark in the second quarter. Hastings and Bell each had three other chances to boot goals through the posts and to win the game, but all OF them were failures. The big Pitt back
