  SYRACUSE DEFEATS ARMY West Point, N. Y, October 11.-Syra- cuse defeated the Army to 3 today in well-played game, the -staters scoring touchdown which they con- .verted into a goal and the soldiers get ting goal from placement. Both scores came in the second period when the teams were going at their best. For the Army. Daniel, Greene and Black did splendid work. Erwig, Fall lon and Thompson played well for Syracuse.   SYRACUSE WINS FROM ARMY IN CLOSE GAME By Associated Press: WEST POINT. y. V, Oct. H. Syracuse defeated the Army seven to three in a well played game, the up-staters scoring touchdown which they converted into a goal and the soldiers getting a goal from placement. Both scores came in the second period when the teams were going at their best In this period the Army attacked strongly and aided by two penalties for off-side play, soon had the ball on Syracuse’s three-yard line but lacked the punch to carry it across. McQuarrie. the Army halfback, then booted a goal from placement, drop ping hack 20 the 1 3 yard line. After an exchange of punts a moment later Erwig. who replaced Steele of Syracuse. ran 40 yards TO the Army’s fivc-vard line and after four plays Ackley was pushed over for “a touchdown. Ackley also kick. ed the goal.
