BADGERS BOW TO OHIO STATE, 1853 Daring Heaves Give Buckeyes Two Touchdowns- Wisconsin Ends Stop Harley. Madison. Wis. Nov. 12.-0hio State stepped on Wisconsin in its march to a conference championship, crush ing the Badgers, 16 to 3. Only Illinois now stands in the way OF an immaculate record for Coach Wilce’s men. IL was another one of those wild and woolIy forward pass games that kept the ball shifting up and down the field, but when the punch was needed the boys from Columbus gave the Badgers a touch of high life 1t was twin pair of long forward heaves that turned the trick. and had these two daring plays failed the game probably would have gone to s to draw, Although the result was just about as had been expected, the combat can be nut down as one of the real upsets of the season. The Buckeyes intro duced Charles Harley, late OF Chi cago’s northwest side. to Madison so cietv for the first time and the ma tiyes were scared to death that the Ohio All-Ameriean boy was going to run wild through the Badger defense Chick tried to race around Kelly in right end and met old Mother Earth very suddenly. Weston. the other Badger wing defense man. was hurt before the game was hardly under way and Keyes replaced him. Harley picked on Keyes for a sucker, but he was thrown back from whence he came in rude fashion. ! Then Chick tried to bore off tackles, but found that Captain Hancock and Scott were waiting with open arms. | ONLY once did the Ohio star gain over six yards from scrimmage and that was in the last period, He found an opening for u yards on that rush. When Chick found that II Badgers were in the game only to keep their ewes on him every instant, he tried 1 other means of scoring and figured in / both touchdowns that sank the Wis consin hopes A place kick goal wound up the day for Harley. ! wisconsin was beaten when Bolen went I’D in the air to grab a Harley pass early in the second period, bu lif Ohio was reckless with the forward pass the Badgers were clean nutty Simpson and jacob literally rainei forward passes over the field. The! threw them long and short, high ans low. and every possible way, but tn Ohio secondary defense was str0nge than what Minnesota showed here las , week and all Of Wilce’s strateg ? Z Ia nd tprphdNun : If there was any feature that mad it stand out above the usual errati ( forward pass melee it was defensiv | work by the ends. When any pair c , flank defenders can stop Harley des ) on 20 punts those boys have done : mans work. That was just wba | Kelly and Keyes did.
