WISCONSIN ELEVEN DOWNS MAROONs, 1870 Chicago. Nov. 26.-Wisconsin skid ded to an Is to victory over the Ma rooms on Stage field. The gridiron was sloppy with snow, but not half so sloppy as was the football game and the erratic stuff made it a pretty punk exhibition. Chicago seemed to have chance all through the first half, which ended 3 to 0. but Wisconsin got the breaks by forcing the fight, and as the game ambled on through its woozy course 1t was apparent that the Ma rooms were lacking. AS a spectacle the afternoon was pretty much of a frost. Preparations for $4,000 had been made, but a com bination of miserable weather. the at traction at Evanston, and war conditons robbed the affair of all the fancy trimmings. About fifteen thousand at tended.

MINNESOTA SECOND IN ‘‘BIG TEN” RACE Chicago, Nov. 26-Footban will be placed on the shelf in the West this week with Thanksgiving Day games and benefit contests between army elevens on Saturday Syracuse will meet Nebraska, champion of the Missouri, Valley Conference, in an intersectional contest at Lincoln on Thursday. The big Ten season came to a close Saturday with Minnesota, which triumphed over Illinois, 1T to 6, in possession of second place honors Northwestern, despite it’s early season defeats in the Conference race, earn ed a tie with Wisconsin for third place as a result of it’s surprising Fl to IL defeat of Michigan. The defeat Of Michigan, playing its first game in the Western Conference In IL years. was the biggest sort of a surprise. The Wolverines, conquer ors of Nebraska and Cornell, had gone through the season with only one defeat and were expected to overwhelm the light but speedy Northwestern eleven Critics pointed out, however, that the full strength of the Michigan eleven was not in the game, as three Of it’s stars were kept out of the fray because of Conference eligibility rules. After three years of unsuccessful effort Minnesota scored a victory over Illinois. The men from the north played a typical Minnesota game, performing with sparkling team work. The attack was not spectacular, but it constantly wore down the Illinois defence. Forward passes and the remarka- BILE kicking of Eber Simpson, the Wis consin quarterback, played an i’m portant part in Wisconsin’s 18 to 0 victory over Chicago. The annual game between Indiana and Purdue developed into a “grudge” affair in all that the term implies. The bitter feeling between the two State institulions may lead to breaking off Of athletic relations. The threatened rupture is the result of the disquaHfication of two Indiana players, How ard and Ewert, in the eve of the game. Despite the loss OF these players the Indiana eleven outfought and outp1ayed Purdue and bagged a 81 to victory. The Michigan and Aggies closed the most disastrous football season in the history. of the East Lansing instituton. The Aggies went through the year without a victory, the defeat at the hands of Syracuse yesterday being | it’s eighth successive loss. Syracuse had no trouble in pi1ing up a FL to count. The Fasteners did not use | any trick formations, which were kept under cover for Nebraska.
