Michigan had no points at halftime. Freshman quarterback Tommy Carr helped change that, scoring his first college rushing touchdown in a 21–18 win over Penn State.
Carr came to Michigan from Saline, Michigan, and Saline High School. On October 17, 2026, the freshman received his first extended opportunity at quarterback for the Wolverines.
Michigan’s defense created three second-half turnovers, and the offense turned to its running game. Carr contributed a 22-yard keeper to the Penn State one-yard line before Jordan Marshall finished that drive with a touchdown.
Carr’s own score came later. With Michigan facing third-and-nine, he ran left for a 12-yard touchdown with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. The extra point gave the Wolverines a 21–11 lead.
Penn State scored again, but Michigan held on 21–18. Carr finished with 47 passing yards and 83 yards of total offense. For the Saline freshman, the payoff was his first rushing touchdown and a part in Michigan’s first Big Ten win of the season.
