No. 1 is gone. Oklahoma beat Texas 27–24 at the Cotton Bowl on Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal as time ran out, as an 8-point underdog.

Oklahoma blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown early in the second quarter, but this one really turned on Arch Manning’s two interceptions. In the fourth quarter Peyton Bowen picked him off and took it 42 yards for a touchdown to put Oklahoma up 24–17. Manning answered with a 15-yard touchdown pass to tie it with 6:32 left, and it looked like Texas had settled down.

Then the finish. Texas missed a 53-yard field goal with 1:54 left, got the ball back after an Oklahoma punt and drove into Sooner territory. With 19 seconds left Courtland Guillory picked Manning off at the Oklahoma 39. John Mateer hit Isaiah Sategna for 13 yards and then 20 more, and Sandell did the rest.

Manning still threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns, but it’s the two picks everyone will remember. Mateer only threw for 155, but he didn’t turn it over once, and in a rivalry game that’s usually the whole story.

Texas came in No. 1 with 61 first-place votes. That number is about to look a lot different.
