Rutgers Eleven Beats Lafayette In Easy Fashion EASTON. Penn. Oct. 20-For the first time this year, the Lafayette stu dents rose in the stands at the end OF a football game and sang the Alma Mater” for their football team had fallen and Rutgers was victorious by the score 33–7. Il was just eighteen years ago that Rutgers played Lafayette the last time, and then the Eastonians were the win ners. The students who sang the swan song over the defeat did so in good part to-day. for it was the better team that won the game-better in every way. From the time the two teams appeared on the field for the preliminary practice il was evident that the big, reasoned, woodworking aggregation In scarlet jerseys would defeat the 1T tie green team that wore the Maroon and White. In the play of the Lafayette contenders, however, there was nothing to indicate that they acknowledged the superiority OF Rutgers. Rutgers Much Superior With the opening plays the prowess of the New Brunswick aggregation was still further evidenced. After comparatively few line plunges, drives outside Of tackle and shift plays, Baker shot across the line for the first touchdown. In the second period series OF sue cessful forward passes in which Whlte,, hill did the throwing and Kelly ana Gardner did the receiving formed the nucleus for another score. This concluded the touchdowns for Rutgers IN the first half. In the second, however, the New Brunswick aggregation were even more effective against the Eastonians. Three times their goalward marches culminated in touchdowns. Lafayette was unable to hold the ball for any appreciable length of time when they did get it on a kick. II was Gargen, Robe son. Whitehill and Kelly who were ploughing through Lafayette continually. Sigol Lafayette Hero There is Lafayette side of the story. 1t was a play in the second period which stands out as the brilliant individual accompl plishment of the after noon. On kick Lafayette got the ball on her 35-yard line. Sigol tooL i it on delayed pass. He drove through a hole in the centre Of the Rutgers team, sdestepped the secondary de, fence as they lunged toward him and was away. At midfeld he evaded the long arms OF Robson and left the big fellow sprawling on the turf. On he tore 10 the goal line At the 25-yard line Baker began to close in on him. On the 5-yard mark Baker made his dive The flying mass shot forward and both men were over the goal line when they stopped rolling and Lafayette had scored. Tho lpa.un.
