OHIO HAS new STAR EQUALTO CHICK HARLEY Chances for Repetition OF Last Year Seen by Foot ball Critics. Aspirations have been kindled in the Ohio State football game as a resuit OF the 40 to 0 defeat of North western by the Buckeye eleven Saturday in the first game of the 1917 season between teams Of the big Ten” The clean-cut victory by Wilce’s men Saturday brings them to the championship, won by Ohio last year force as probably the strongest contenders for the. western conference for the first time. This set back virtually eliminates Northwestern from the race, which last year was between the two teams which met Saturday. The Ohio squad. according to crit les, played like a team that had been practicing for months instead Of weeks. Not only did the players show remarkable offensive strength, but they displayed deadly tackling ability and perfect execution of forward passes. The team, composed mainly Of veterans, has a new star, who, crit les believe, is as brilliant a player as .Ghick” Harley, all-American half hack last year. The new player is Gail pete” Stinchcomb, who, with Harley, forms the wings Of Ohio’s backffeld. Ohio has only three more games with conference teams-Wisconsin. Indiana and Illinois-and critics do not believe this can stop Coach Wilce’s players in their championship dash.
