LEXINGTON GENERALS TRIM navy ELEVEN Washington and Lee Win, from Md shipmen by I0-to-o Score Annapolis. Md, Noy. 1.-The Navy Blue team Of the Naval Academy ran into a navy blue” day over on the bank OF the River Severn this afternoon. when the Washington and Lee University eleven from Lexington strengthened its hold on the South Atlantic championship by administering a 1o-to-0 defeat 10 Uncle Sans midshipmen. This fierce charging, hard-tackling Navy eleven was outplayed throughout this sixty minutes Of rough and inconsistent exhibition. The drizziing rain. which started shortly after the opening whistle. made the handling Of the ball difficult. while the footing was treacherous and caused much fumbling In Capt Ignico and johnson the visiting Generals” from Lexington presented two of the best tackles that have been seen on Farragut Field this season The IN diyidual work OF these tackIers in smash ing up Navy’s heretofore sensational line attacks were easily responsible for the downfall of the middies, while Half Backs Young and Grill were above par in break ing up the aerial heaves. Navy used three punters in this contest, namely, Perry, Won Heimber and Roberts but Young. Of the Generals” proved to be a booter of extraordinary ability, and more than held his own with this trio! fruitless, as the Middies registered but two first downs by bucking the line, while the Lexington collegians gathered In ten during the fray. and made quartet OF these pave the way for their touchdown. Shorty after the opening of the third period Young returned one of Perry’s poor punts for 3 yards. and placed the ball on a0-yard line. Sarrell added more, but the forward pass failed Two line plunges failed to net any ground. and the ball went over. Here Won Heimberg attempted q punt, which was blocked by Capt lgnico, OF the Lexington team. giving the Gen erals’ the ball on the u-yard line. Ssrrell hit through the center Of the line for yards and Navy was on side on the next play, which placed the ball on the Navy’s 2-yard line. The visitors then used q shift play, which placed Left Tackle johnson behind the line Of scrimmage and on his first plunge he lunged through for the only touchdown. Young kicked an easy goal. Toward the closing minutes Of the third period Washington and Lee obtained the ball on the 1-ysrd line after an exchange Of punts and through a series Of line at ia ks the Generals registered another first down. Two more line plays put the ball on the 22-yard line, where Young dropped back to the S2-yard line and booted a neat field goal directly between the uprights, giving the visitors their final points. The open field running OF Quarter Backs Welchel and Orr, OF the Navy team, and Young Grill and and Sarrell. Of the ‘‘Generals” were the outstanding features OF this in-and-out contest The summary:

w. AND L. RUNS RINGS AROUND NAVY’S ELEVEN Generals Show Up Middies Much Worse than Score Of 10 too Annapolis, Md, Nov. 4.-Washington and Lee took Navy’s measure in foot ball here this afternoon in such style as to give the middies’ confidence a severe jolt. Although having the advantage of weight and the added benefit Of wet, slippery field, the sailors were outclassed more than the 10 to 0 score indicated. For the entire last period the Wis itors played safe, and to save their several invalids resorted TO a kicking game. Even at this they did as they had done throughout the earlier stages of the struggle and kept the play on Navy’s side Of the field. In line plunging, off tackle dashes, end skirting, punting. forward passing, place kicking and indeed in every department of high grade football the midshipmen were completely bested. The Virginian points were tailed on well earned touchdown, and the resulting goal followed by neatly booted placement goal from a difficult angle
