The power OF Pitts backs hardly can be measured by the score OF the game. as the Quakers were continually on the defensive and always making n gallant stand under the shadow OF their own goal posts. Only this tenacious fighting spirit OF the visitors Kept Pitt from registering a more lopsided triumph. Dehart did most of the pounding. His rushes into and through the Penn for wards showed the bail by short gains across the field and into the. danger ‘sone. Here Penn usually braced with such strength Pitt was temporarily checked. but then IL was Hastings who coolly dropped back ten yards n with his line men making an im%pregnable bar fier twice lifted the ball over the cross bar for field goals. His first goal from = the field few straight and true over the goal posts it the opening period. His second attempt was converted into u score In the next period. ? Four Piunxcs 20 score. Tho frst touchdown was vic!ously d. earned and brought compliments to every member OF the fighting Pitt machine. Just before the first period ended Penn was forced to kick from its Ave yard line. Pitts star right end. dived through the air and dropped on the ball. The period ended at this point. b.. Refreshed by the minute rest victor and vanquishcd came together in mighty line struggles. Four times Deaart ca;apulled into the line. and II was not until the fourth charge that he was able to place the bail on the far side OF the final chalk mark. Penn had made its fight and had lost. but proved to every one OF the thou sands in the stand that in losing Penn stands out as “A team of warriors worthy OF every laurel. That stand against the ali powerful Pitt combination, although nding In a touchdown and Of course success. reflected not against Penn but rather for Pitt. Irresistible attack etrove against an almost impregnable !, defence and the bat;cring counted in the end. Encouraged by their stand In the third ! period Penn fought desperately In the $, fourth. but was unable to keep Pitts burg from registering another touch- : down n Its subsequent goal. This = fnal count zane through n brilliantly .executed triple pass, Morrow to Dehart 20 Hastings. who sid over the line. He followed his slide by kicking goal and making the final score 20 to 0. a.. Rough Game IL Seen. There was a lot Of rough playing on each side. However. II was not until ths fourth period that this detractins . part OF the struggle stood out. The off. clals were kept busy ~pena.lzing the players In the last quarter. lnfractior OF the rules was common. Pittsburg FOR. feited yards for delaying the game. Mile or Penn was offside 80 often he wal sent from the field. Many other player, .. were s’gnalled out for penalties and sub, stitutions were frequent. II was one o, the hardest fought battles ever staget here. Capt. Berry OF Penn played wonder fu.ly for the first two periods and wa, so battered by that time he was force, from the field, giving way to Qulgley . strangely enough as soon as Berry wa! taken out Penn seemed TO take on new life and played better from that poin. until the end OF the game. Berry’s punt Ing was not up to his usua, STANDARD hut this was explained when IL wa, learned that he had injured his leg II the game with Penn State n week ago Pitt, students are Jubllant tonight All Insist that the best team In the coun . Try Is coached by Warner and ~captaine, by Peck. The playing of the varsit, was ragged at times, but It stood gu In bold relief whenever a charge wa : necessary. Hastings and Dehart agaii proved of ‘nest!mable value in every de partment OF the game. The way Pitt forwards spilled all Penn plays mus have discouraged Bob Folwell even NOR, than 1t did the Players he had tn tored and primed for this game. Penn Forced Back. Pitt. gained consistently In the frs period. but tumble prevented a touch down. However. Hastings partly mad up for the lack Of consistency by lift ina the ball over the crossbar from III 70 yard line. A blocked punt n fou hard dashes into the line started tn , second period with a touchdown 10 Pitt. Hastings kicked goa. Shortl after Hastings attempted n place kic from nifty yards, but missed. Just r fe, plays later Pitt placed the ball on tn = 20 yard line, and Hastings this tim dropped back and followed with hi second place kick of the game.
