NAVY HELD TO TIE Dickinson Eleven Surprises Midshipmen in 90 Game. ROBERTS GAINS GROUND Former Colgate Star Features With His Runs-Welsh Punts Well. ANNAPOLIS, Md. September 30 The Naval Academy and Dickinson College foot ball teams fought through scoreless tie game today, the Penn sylvanians surprising the Midshipmen and their followers by their splendid defensive play. Neither team had an offense sufficiently developed to gain consistently. but there was some charging and tackling on the defense that would have done credit to mid season. The defensive work of the Dickinson tackles was brilliant. and though the Midshipmen did some fine charging at times. their forwards seldom equaled the aggressiveness of the visitors. Both lines were heavy, but Dickinsons proved more aggressive. ‘Welsh’s punting for Dickinson and some brilliant open field running by Roberts of the Navy were the features of contest that otherwise was some what listless.. 1t was a coincidence that both men were stars before entering the institutions they now rep resent. Welsh having been a brilliant at Carlisle Indian School under Warner and Roberts having held the same position at Colgate.

NAVY HELD SCORELESS BY DICKINSON ELEVEN Annapolis, Sept. 3o.-The Navy opened the football season here this afternoon under not too suspicious cir cumstances. The Dickinson College aggregarion held the sailors scoreless during thirty-six minutes of play. The only real feature of the game from the Annapolis standpoint was the plain manifestation that the best material the Navy has comes from the new class Their only really consistent ground gamer was Roberts, the Colgate star OF last season.
