AUBURN CRUSHED BY VANDERBILT Supremacy of the South is Wrenched Away by Gold and Black. BIRMINGHAM, Ala, Nov. Ia Auburn’s all but undisputcd reign OF the past two years over southern grid il ons was brought TO a sudden close here today when II husky athletes wearing the gold and black of Van derbilt upset recent football traditions and sent the Alabama plainimcn down to defeat by tho decisive score Of II to 0. Not in two years had the Auburn line been crossed and many wagers had been made that today it would go Grscathcd But Vanderbilt, suffering under the sting of the crushing defeat administered by Virginia a week ago. went into the game with spirit tn 1t was not to be denied The men from Tennessee outclassed their Alabama rivals i’m all that goes to make up tho modern game of football. They had the speed, the stamina, the skill and the heart. Auburn had the heart, too, but the old smash and power were lacking. Time and again the Auburn backs would hurl themselves at tho Vanderbilt line, only to make a gain of a yard or two, or be thrown for ii loss. A forward pass from Auburn’s 20 yard line gave Vanderbilt the first touchdown and the Tennesseans scored again when Wren of Auburn missed a punt and the bail helped by favor able wind, went well above his head and sailed across the Auburn line. Cody ana Curry of Vanderbilt were on top of the oval before an Auburn man could reach the spot The third scoring by Vanderbilt was a field goal from the 30-yard line.
