SMALL COLLEGE ELEVENS UPSET. AS USUAL, ALL FOOTBALL DOPE Little Fellows Have Acquired Habit of Licking Bigger Rivals-Pittsburgh Plays Great Ball Against Navy–Cornells Big Score By ROBERT W. MAXWELL year. His work againsct the Navy was better than any seen in the East for MANY years, and some excellent centres have been developed. Peck is n natural PLAYER and Is so per cent. of the defensive strength of his team. lie has the foot ball instinct” backs up the line well and is sure tackler. He is all over the field be played But Peck is not the only star on the team. Williamson at quarter and Hast lngs, Fry, Dehart and Miller in the back held are all exceptionally good players. and the line men also put up a good game. Pitt is working hard for the game with Penn on Franklin Field on October SS and VIII present formidable line-up. It’s getting to be a regular stunt for Dave Tibbott to win a football gaY1e FOR Princeton each week Saturday he atom on his SO-yard line and nonchalantiv nfted drop-kick over the bar for the only score of the game, and Syracuse was sent home with the short END of a s-to-0 count. After he booted the ball, the former Germantown Academy boy was Denched so he could be saved up Tor the game next Saturday. Princeton again was lucky. as the score was the direct result OF a bad pass from the Syracuse centre to Wilkinson, who was back for a kick. The ball went to princeton on the 32-yard line, and was worked out to the middle of the field, directly In front of the goal posts, where Tibbott used his toe to good advantage. Syracuse showed a marked superiority over the Tigers on the offense, gaining a total of 121 yards by rushing the bali, while the best Princeton could do was “a yards. Harvard’s showing did not disappoint the coaches, although Carlisle put up stiff game. The Indians showed mighty power on the offense, gaining more ground than the Crimson by straight Football. Harvard’s defense was torn to pieces for three periods; but is generally held when the goal line was in danger. The aborigines were also able to pierce the paleface line on either side, fool ing and pushing their opponents out of the way without much trouble. Harvard showed that it had the final punch to put a score across the line On two occasions, when the ball was within scoring distance, the Crimson backs ripped through the close Carlisle defense, and touchdowns resulted The Indians scored in the third period but II was after the first-string men had been replaced by substitutes. washington and Jefferson suddenly came to life and defeated Lafayette by the score of II to o. It was a hard game, and although outclassed in weight. Bob Folwelrs men outplayed their opponents in straight football. After the showing made by w. and j. in the first two games, 1t was thought that the team would not be up to the standard set by last years eleven. Folwell evidently had something up his sleeve, and probably will spring some more new stuff against Yale on October %. Cornell dedicated the new athletic field and walloped Williams by the score Of 46 to 6. The Ithacans outclassed their rivals and had no difficulty in winning. Swarthmore defeated Bucknell to 0. Villanova triumphed over Ursinus by villa Nova triumphed over Ursinus by the same score, and Harvard won from Delaware by the score Of 81 to IA.
