AUBURN SPIRIT AND BULLDOG POWER WINS Coach Mike Donahue, Even After Georgia Drew First Blood, Sure of Victory r KNOW it was purely case Of wonderful bulldog power, backed by the spirit of Auburn and combined with a well-worked, speedy line SHIFT, which the fighting Georgia team was unable to slove the mysteries of. A hard fought, uphill battle 1t was that the Alabamans won, for Georgas representatives drew the first blood with a touchdown and a goal. The ball was taken under the posts by a we’ll worked and exceedingly fast forward pass which the Auburn sec ondary defense misjudged. The pass came at the logical moment, when a forward pass was practically the one and only sensible thing to do, am sure. The play was an ticipated by Auburn. I think the fact that the ball was worked from NC Whorter to Logan fooled the second airy defense At the outset the Georgia team was on its toes every minute. l know tina: from the start of the game and until near the close of the first half the in vaders were outplayed, and to the great crowd in the stands 1t looked like the home guards were going TO take away the honors and win the Southern championship. 1 never doubted that the Auburn team would win But the Alabama team picked no, and with their rooters cheering for touchdowns and for the individual players carried off the victory. AS has been the case throughout The season. McWhorter and Paddock were 49, oP alaUpO the backfield. while Auburn’s leaders in this department were Newell AMI the fullbacks. Newell’s work was wonderful. As the game grew older Newell improved, and 1t was an eXceptionally hard task for the Georgians to stop him. At the finish he was as strong as ever. Few were the plays that ended with the boys from Alabama scattered in pell-mell style over the gridiron. This was in contrast to the Georgia squad. Near the end of the battle the whistle of the referee would find the men strewn about the field and they were slow in getting to their feet. All spared for time. Auburn played a wonderful game, which was. without doubt, the best played game they have participated In this season. l know that the eleven sent against Georgia was an altogether different proposition than the team / pitted against Vanderbilt. The game was one of the cleaneSt played l have ever had the pleasure to witness, although l can truly say that it also was one of the hardest played and hardest fought battles of the year. I know, and everybody else knows. however, that his is always the case when the Auburn athletes clinch with the representatives from fair Gecrgia, no matter how small or how great is the honor to be derived from the victory.
