CRUSHING LINE PLAY WINS FOR MICHIGAN Pennsylvania Defence Crushed Under Terrific Attack OF YOSt’s Men. CRAIG THE HERO OF GAME Minds, Weak and Crippled, Makes Gallant Effort TO Stem Tide, but Dismally Fails at Forward Passes. Ann Arbor. Mich. Nov. l5.-Using the same terrific line attack that crushed Syracuse. the football eleven Of the Unit versity Of Michigan to-day defeated Pennsylvania. 10 to o. Michigan simply battered the defence OF the Fasteners 10 pieces. At no time during the game was Pennsylvania even dangerous Pennsylvanla’s attack was as erratic as her defence was mediocre. Now and then, at wide intervals. one OF Brooke men skirted a Michigan end for six or seven yards gain. Attempts TO pierce Michgan’s line were SO unsuccessful dur ing the first half that they were practically abandoned during the final period. Pennsylvania. the same az Michigan. was a distinct victory for old fashioned, sledge hammer football There were few sensations. The great est excitement came during the first period, when Michigan secured the ball in Pennsylvania territory. The Wolverinc linemen opened big holes and the Wolverine backs did the rest. Craig, Gait and Hughitt seldom had 10 be content with gains Of less than five yards. and. finally, Craig crossed the goal line Pat erson kicked goal. one of the few forward passes success fully executed helped give Michigan a second touchdown. The play was made during the second period. 1t was toss from Hughitt TO Lyons that Melted TWEEN ty-iive yards and IL put the Yost men within striking distance OF the Blue and Red goal. Holding IN the line cost Michigan a third touchdown. In the third period Pat erson dropped back apparently to at tempt a field goal. A trick play resulted. however. and IIughitt sprnted thirty yards for a score. The ball was brought back and Michigan was penalized fifteen yards. Brooke. head coach for Pennsylvania, made a desperate effort to strengthen his eleven in the second half lie called on the crippled Minds to replace Avery at fullback, and the fleet Marshall took Mcrrills place at quarterback. Since the back field is generally considered the best in the eastern college football world the improvement in defense has lifted a load from the minds of Harvard ad- herents. Penn. Downed by Michigan. Pennsylvania went the way of other eastern elevens which have clashed with western teams for Michigan de- feated the Quakers 13 to 0. As if to demonstrate the ability of the Wolver- inc team. Coach Yost crossed the east ern representatives by beating them with the eastern game. Tn place of complicated forward passes and blind ing trick plays so often used by west ern elevens, Michigan riddled the Pennsylvania line by short plunging attacks varied by end runs behind invulnerable defense. For the first time this season the Army eleven has received an encour- aging report from Annapolis after a game in which the navy has been a contestant. In Penn. State the Mid dies found an opponent able to check their powerful rushes and the navy eleven had to work hard for every one of the ten points scored by touchdown and field goal.

YALE, WITH new HOPE, PREPARES FOR HARVARD Old Eli Will Devote Week to Strengthening Attack to Meet Champions DARTMOUTH’S HOPE FOR TITLE GOES GLIMMERING Cornell Takes New Hope When 1t Sees Michigan Crush the Pennsy Eleven NEW YORK. Nov 17.-With the football season tapering to q close. one of the best games OF the year Is in prospects in the Yale-Harvart clash at Cambridge, Saturday. Yale brought about quick shift In public opinion by the showing against Princeton. and the belief that II would only be an easy step for the Crimson to clinch the eastern title. the outlook now is that Harvard will have the hardest game Of the season on hand. Unless great changes have been made in the Crimson attack. the chances are against Harvard scoring a touchdown on Yale. Brickley may, OF course. drop over field goal Mt most any time, but Yale has one Of the greatest defensive teams In the east. Princeton’s attack lacked va riety and could make no Roadway. The shifts made at Yale have undeabtedly produced an entirely differ. ent team. as compared with the one which opened the season. The Blue men came through the Tiger game in good condition. Baker and Pendlefon suffered slightly wrenched knees. but they will be In shape for the first scrimmage practice of the week, which will be called tomorrow. II Is not likely that any changes In the lineup will be made before the Harvard game. Knowles, however. will probably start the game, despite the showing of Guernsey against Princeton. He will remain In until Yale has a chance at q goal from field and Guernsey will then be called upon. This scheme will probably be followed because Knowles Is more accurate as a punter. Yale is far from conceding Satur. days game TO Harvard. and the coaches plan To devote this week to building up an attack. The defensive work of the team was all that could be desired. but the attack lacked force. Dartmouths hope Of claiming the eastern championship along with Har. ward. was blasted by Carlisle and they are through. The Indians mixed old. fashioned football up with a fast open game, and showed they have adj vanced much further with the latter style of plav than have other elevens in this section. Princeton’s cry is now OF next year.” The Tigers closed the season with Yale. Phillips and Capt. Baker are the only regulars lost by graduaton. Cornell has taken new hone for the game with Pennsylvania. Thanksgiv. ing day. as a result OF PENIS run-in with Michigan, Saturday. Michigan defeated Cornell II to 0, and Penn 13 to 0. On basis OF comparative scores, Cornell may make q better showing than was expected. The Navy did not mus mp Penn State as much as was expected, Sat urday, but the Middies probably did not want to show all they have, with the Army game now only two weeks away. villonova proved to be easy for the Army. but the game served to show that the cadets have made great strides in the use OF the for ward pass.
