Nd, Sept, pa four. | time win over the Army” is the slogar at the Naval Academy today coaches Howard and Reilly stating plainly thai the Navy will start the campign to. Ioorrow with all but two regulars q last years victorious eleven on hand. With the arrival of Big Babe Brown by many critics selected as All America guard, and several more regulars and substitutes the Navy football sdual is prctieaIly completed TO-DAY and will start the regular practice tomorrow Captain Gilchrist, All America end Is fit and ready as are all of those who are showing up. The game next Saturday with the Uni: versity of Pittsburgh Is the first con: test OF the season and coaches Howard and Reilly will have their hands full with the candidates from now on until the end of the week getting ready for Joe Duff’s big team which yesterday rompcd away with the Ohio Northern University by 67 to 0. Nearly all of the men have taken on weight since last season and il will require something like two weeks Of the hardest sort of work before the team can be gotten in first-ciass shape. The plebe eleven is likely to be almost as heavy as the varsity and should send US a good many stars for the early season. Dug Howard, who will direct the Navy team this season as he has for the past three years is not particularly enthusiastic at this juncture. Coach Howard has. had the experience of past seasons !, Campaign 70 ga by, and argues that the Navy team is starting out too well to be assured OF success. knowing that the Navy works well under handicap the coach is not at all optimistic, even though the candioates look good at this juncture. Jim Reilly, the former Yale halfback ard coach of last -year’s Washington and Lee team, is new here but has rapidly become popular. He is bust recovering from appendicitis, and while weak will be in good physical shape shortly. Reilly’s success with Wash ington and Lee last year makes him especially fit for the work cut out tor him here this season. The other coaches will not arrive until later in the season and not until the strength of the eleven is known beyond a doubt. Something like Il hundred candidates will report for the first workout tomorrow. All nine of the football veterans Of last season who are available this year are at the Naval Academy today.
