Two OF three Cornell me” gave chase in a hopeless sort OF way hut they could not have caught the NY ing Mercer even if they had not been blocked off and tumbled about by other PENNSYLVANIA players. Minds kicked the goal and these seven points proved quite enough TO win. PENNS TRIMS CORNELL 7–2 Battle Fought on Field Made Slippery by Snow. Philadelphia, Nov. 29.-The annual football tussle between Penn and Cor nell was fought on a field which had been made slippery by the snowfall, and Penn Won by q narrow margin. The score was 7 to 2 In favor of the Quaker team, and the points scored represented a touchdown and goal therefrom for Penn and a safety by Penn, which was the source of the Ithncans’ only tally. The field was in as good shape us it could be after the snow, but was wet on the surface, and that interfered considerably with back field men in running with the ball. The runners held their feet pretty well under the circumstances, but in making starts and quick turns were bothered. There was no advantage from this condltion, both sides being affected the same. About $4,000 persons, clad in furs, shawls and such other garments as were necessary to keep out the damp chill of the air were on hand for the game. The sky cleared In the after noon, and 1t was a good day for foot ball except the playing surface. The assemblage gazed upon n battle which was closely fought all the time between the teams. which were evenly matched. Except so far as the score goes, the beaten team was not %outfought. In fact, Cornell had the ball in Penn ter ritory more than Penn had it In Cor nell territory, and Cornell made three first downs to PENIS single one by rushing. 1t was because of q tumble by a SUBJ stitute player that the Quakers made their touchdown. Captain Mercer gath cred in the ball on a tumble by Bennett of Cornell and ran half the length Of the field for a touchdown, helped along by good interference, so that not a Cor nell man could get to him. Cornells handling of the ball was about as good as PENIS. but none Of the Penn fun bles happened to prove costly, as did this one Of Cornells.
