BY Telegraph TO The tribune Ithaca. n. Y, Nov 2.-The Cornell foot hall team suffered crushing defeat at the hands Of Williams on Percy Field this afternoon by the score of “a to 10. Poor secondary defence and worse tackling can no directly charged with the loss of the came. for all of Wniams’s scores We’re made on remarkably long runs, which were free from hindrances after the Blue runner had broken through the Cornell line The game opened most auspiciously for the Cornell team, and it seemed through ont the first period as If the Red and White players had distinctly come back Cornell had the game entirely to itself tallying a touchdown and goal from placement before the half ended. the game up to this point was the cleanest and prettiest exhibition of straight foot hall seen on Percy Field in many day Between the halves, when the cadet band struck I’D The Big Red Team with its refrain. see them marching down to the coal” II seemed as If for the first time si,ce the Princeton game IN 1906 this Cornell football song was appropriate ana fitting. Cornell first got possession of the oall when Williams was forced to punt from their own 2O-yard line, after having oeeh thrown twice for losses. Captain Eddle Butler ran the ball back 10 the enemy award line, and then OConnor and frltz made short, quick gains which carried the hall TO the 2O-yard line Here Fritz lost the ball in the only tumble OF the game. but Cornell again threw Williams for loss and received their punt at mid field This time the advances were made consistently and on straight football, six and eight yards at a time, until O’Connor was finally within striking distance ana Butler topped off the touchdown with a goal. In like manner the game proceeded TOT the entire first half, Butler occasionally making good attempts for field goals the last one successful from the 42-yard line When the teams repaired 10 the clubhouse between the halves the game was at once a pleasant remembrance and delightful prospect. With the score at 10 to 0, snow IN the air and warm furs in evidence, Cor nelllans had much to be contented win and a good team TO represent them. The second half opened with Taber at quarterback, and the loss of Captain But Ter was at once felt Eyrich, too. was now out Of the game and the many examples Of splendid holding Of the earlier part OF the game were Immediately forgotten when Williams bucked the Red and Nhite line The third quarter was hardly started when a double pass. Turner TO Lewis, started the ball through the LETT wing OF the Cornell line. Williams Tor nation simply swung the Cornell lnemen out OF the way to clear Lewis’s path, ana when. in the territory Of Cornelfs sec oDdary. he passed Finn, O’Connor and then Tabor, he lodged his last opponent Down the field he sped, just too fast Tor Eyrich an7 O’Hearne, who followed on MS heels This forty-hve-yard run seemed hard enough blow for one quarter, but Lewis. when only one minute was left 10 play, again got through the centre OF the Cornell line and ragged tackling again let him slip past for a seventy-four-yard run down the middle Of the field for touch down TO top the Cornell score. Thoroughly worn out, Cornell started the last quarter Of the game with the score a to 10. but Williams’s machine was too much and the New Englanders sent goal from placement between the posts and followed il up with a sixty-yard run ard IS tally Of the game.
