BN IelegEaD0 10 We liibuIfsI PHILADELPHIA, Oct 26. - Pennsylvania football team received its third defeat OF the season this afternoon. Lafayette win ming the annual game by a score Of 7 to 2. Fortune smiled on the Quakers continually. but they were too weak or too poorly coached to take advantage Of their opportunities. Lafayette, in spite Of playing on the defensive for almost the entire second half. gained more ground than Pennsylvania and fully merited her victory. Lafayette repeated the performance Of Swarthmore and Brown ~ carrying the ball eighty yards for a touchdown in the first period The visitors line in par ticular was far superior TO that Of the Quakers. Three times during the game Pennsyvana had the ball within striking dis lance of the Lafayette goal, but twice on account of wonderful defence and once because of poor handling the EastonIans took 1t on downs. LAFAYETTE made wonderful stand at the beginning Of the fourth period. A tumble Of a punt on a free catch BY Hennessy allowed Greene to recover the bail for Pennsylvania, and he ran forty yards to the 15-yard line before he was downed Pennsylvania secured first down in four plunges, and then, with the bali on the 5-yard line, IT looked as though the Red and Blue would get the touchdown and victory. Lafayette then took one Of the most wonderful braces ever seen here, and after four plunges by Minds and Mer- Ger PENNSYLVANIA was one foot from the goal line when the players were untangled Lafayette made her only score In the first period Marshall missed chance for a field goal and Lafayette put the ball in play on the 20-yard line. II took Just thirteen plays to get the bail over the line Most Of the gains were made by Brown and ]. Diamond, the Lafayette quarterback contributing one run OF thirty yards He also made the touch down on a twelve-yard run around end. Pennsylvania did not score until toS’ ard the close Of the second period. Get ting the ball on Lafayette’s b-yard line on an exchange of kicks, it was worked down TO the 1O-yard line. but with fye yards 10 go on the fourth down, Marshall tried a drop kick and scored from the ! l5-yard line. Lafayette almost scored another touch down I’m the second period. In seven plays Lafayette rushed the ball from | her own 2O-yard line TO Pennsylvanias ! lO-yard lire, three forward passes contributing most Of the distance. The visitors lost their chance TO score BY trying forward pass, which hit the ground over the goal line. PENIS back field, which was thought to be her only hope for a successful season, fell down, not only using bad Judgment, but lacking ability, dash and spirit. Captain MERGERS showing was most disappointing. He played tho poorest game he has ever shown on Franklin field. Jack Diamond, LaFayettes star back, shone far better than Mercer.
