Ithaca, y. y. sept. 25.--By an eleventh. hour arrangement with Washington and jefferson. the Cornell eleven opened It’s football season here to-day and won by the narrow margin Of 10 o. Until within one minute Of the end OF the game no score was recorded for either team and the play was about even on both sides Late in the final period Captain Butler received a punt on Cornel’s 25-yard line and on the next play Fritz invaded Wash inRton and jefferson territory with a dash ing forty-yard run after catching for ward pass. O’Connor gained twenty yards on like play, and with the ball in a favorable position Butler grasped the OPP portunity to score goal from placement. While not productive of large score, the game should prove valuable TO the coaches I’m that the team faced a strong and worthy foe The new rules received q good test, and were found satisfactory. The advantage Of the forward pass was amply demonstrated. and with it Buffers clever execution. SIX successful forward passes out OF ten tried Melted Cornell 125 yards. The Cornell men seemed TO be we’ll grounded in the rudimcnts Of the game. OF the new men in action Nash. at right end. appeared promising. defending his position well and receiving forward passes accurately. Eddie Iill. In the backhed. more than once supplemented the for wards and downcd a runner In his tracks. Tho line although heavy. will have TO be welder together before ii is quito up 90 the backs.

Nine fun bles and three heavy penalties prevented Lehigh from scoring more points. Albright was on the defensive most of the time and made but n first down on a forward pass, so consistent was Lehigh’s line. The locals secondary defense performed in great style. Crichton, Higgins, Ready, Whitney and Flick were great ground-gainers, while Keady’s Interference was all that could be desired.
