CONFERENCE TITLE Won BY MINNESOTA ON COMPARATIVE SCORES aDoPE” RANKS THE GoPHERs AMONG THE BEST TEAMS IN THE LAND HAS NOT LOST A GAME THIS SEASON. Saturday was red letter day in western football circles and the resuits on western gridirons were high “ satisfactory to Minnesota adherents. II comparative scores are any criterion for basis Of opinion as to the relative strength of the different aggregatons in the country, Minnesota has as good a claim as any one to the ma tional championship. Comparative scores may or may not be good authority, but as they are the only means by which such comparisons can be made they must needs be made use of in arriving at results. And the results OF such comparisons places Minnesota right up at the top. Take the following games as illustrating the point that Minnesota was as strong as any OF them Minnesota, 80; Chicago, 0. Chicago, 6; Cornell, 0. Cornell, s; Michigan, 0. Michigan. 6; Syracuse, s. Syracuse. 10; Carlisle, IL. Carlisle, IS; Harvard, Is. Harvard. s; Dartmouth, 8. Harvard. 20, Brown, 8. Nebraska, 6; Michigan, 6. But this does not prove anything towards Minnesota’s being better than one of the others; it only indicates that the gophers team of this year has defeated teams which were as good and better than some of the big east ern elevens. 1t places her in positon where she can claim anything in the way Of championships that she chooses, basing her claims, as she necessarily must, upon comparative scores as the only available means OF drawing comparisons. There is not chance Of an argu ment I’m the western championship problem. Chicago disposed OF the only claimant that ever could have dis puted the gophers’ claim, and, as the matter now stands. comparative scores. Minnesota is the only indicated team in the west, and only once during the season was Minnesota’s goal line crossed.

ARMY’S COLORS TRAIL IN MUD Chicago Wins From Wis consin, Minnesota Defeats Illinois, While Nebraska Ties With Michigan in Hard Game. CAMBRIDGE. Mass, Nov. 25.-So powerful was the defense and so neg !ectfuI were both teams of their opportunities that Harvard and Yale both left the stadium in silence to- day without scoring a point in the thirty second annual football game.
