SURPRISING SCORES Tailed IN GR|D|R0N BATTLES WISCONSIN AND MINNESOTA TIED ICY FIELD KEPT DOWN THE SCORE Minnesota and Wisconsin Tied in Annual Gridiron Battle Battle Madison, Wis, Nov. 2O-Wisconsin n Minnesota battled to a 6 to 6 tie on Camp Randall field on Saturday n the western football championship Is still undecided. Each team made a touchdown and a goal kick In. each instance. $500 The game was played on a field of iee’ the players having great difficulty proved the better at this kind Of a game. however, while the Gopher players slipped all over themselves trying to make Roadway against the Cardinals. Both touchdowns. one by Capron Of Minnesota, the other by Moll Of wis. consin, were sensational, being long team. Just before the final whistle blew. Moll made another long run for what looked like a touchdown, but the Cardinal quarterback ran about two feet out Of bounds on the way down the field and the ball was called back, When the teams lined up, Wisconsin had the ball less than a yard from Minnesota goal line. Minnesota held like a stone wall on the first attempt Of the Badgers to shove the ball over, and lust as the men were lining up for the second down, the whistle blew. Capron’s Work Sensational Mtnnesota’s touchdown vas unusually sensational and about twelve sec onds after play was called. Gillette caught the ball on his 90 yard line while on a dead run. The pigskin bounded out Of his. hands. but he recovered 1t, and dodgin gevery pros. pective Wisconsin tackler, shot down the center of the field for a touch. down. shaking off Mol at the IS yard line. Morrell kicked goal. Capron’s feat was almost an exact duplication Chicago a on the same field in 1908. After this score. Wisconsin took a big brace and more than held Min nesota the remainder of the game. Wisconsin made its touchdown in the final quarter. Moll caught a punt on his SO yard line and eluding every distance for a touchdown. Some Of the Minnesota players apparently made no attempt to catch Moll. and they claimed after the game that a whistle, similar to hat of the referee, sounded just as Moll got started, and they thought time had been called. Gillette kicked goal. Fought Desperately After this touchdown the Badgers score. but the Gophers fought back with equal desperation, and both teams were continually forced to punt. The Badgers would start to tear up the Gopher line, but the latter would brace and get possession Of the ball. Minnesota in turn made several first downs. but the Cardinals always were strong when 1t came to a test and neither goal was W in imminent danger. Minnesota had the ball just before the Gophers were given their worst scare and Cardinal enthusiasm was at its highest. at the close of the game. The Wisconsin line had proved impregnable on the first attempt and pass formation. Stevens took the bail and made the pass. but Mol jumped into the air. caught 1t, and dashed down the field. near the side lines. Badger enthusiasm knew no bounds when he crossed the Gopher line, but he had been hard pressed by several Gophers and stepped out of bounds in avoiding a Minnesota tackler. MOll Outpuntcd Capron Moll outpunted Capron by a large margin, the Badgers work being UNI usually good and the Gopher’s unusually weak. Wisconsin forwards followed the ball much better than did Minnesota and The Badger backfeld returned punts much better than their opponents. Capron did the most effective work on offense for Minnesota, but after his first long run for the touchdown. the Badgers followed him closely and If he got away from one, another was sure to catch him. Rosenwald and Stevens did most Of the ball carrying for the Gophers. but the line plunging of Captain Pickering was missing. For Wisconsin the entire backleld did splendid work, Gillette and Tandberg. being the most effective against tho line. Little in the way Of trick plays was attempted by either team and these usually resulted in no gain or a loss. The forward pass was used with but little success. Fumbling was frequent, but, this is ascribed to the condition Of the field. Tho lineup:
