TOO MUCH SNOW To PLAY FOOTBALL Idaho 0utplays Utah in No-ScOre Game on Cummings Field. TEAMS BECOME FATIGUED FLOWING THROUGH SNOW Management Fails to Clear Grid iron, Which Results in Poor Contest. Although neither team could score, Ida io -outplayed Utah on Cummings field : Thursday afternoon in a snow football game, Tho teams completely exhausted themselves on a field covered with one foot OF heavy snow, which had been trampled down from two feet by over three hundred students In the hope OF making good field, AS it was the game was a great disappointment to a crowd far below the number that was expected TO attend, but the contest did not seem to be inviting enough TO get all the fans out the cold day. As TO the game, it, was nothing more than kicking contest There were just forty nine punts in all, and before each kick the men would spend one or two minutes clearing Il spot in which the kicker might stand. The ball was 50 slippery that many Of the kicks didn’t amount to much. and. in this respect. Small, the Idaho quarter. had better luck than did Convill for Utah. Smalls punts were as rule longer and more accurate than Convllls, although the latters work improved in the second half. Small Star Shines, Small also distinguished himself by the way in which he handled the slippery ball when Convill punted. He fumblod the ball rarely on these occasions, while fumbles under similar circumstances by the ‘U” men were frequent and costly. II was practically impossible TO get play started In good shape on account OF the poor footing, and the result was that on only two occasions did either team make the required ten yards on straight football, On the first play, Conyil passed a forward TO Monahan which netted twenty yards. and once during the Sec ond Johnson made a. twenty yard run out side of tackle for the northeTners. Both sides recovered short kicks on several occasious, but these plays We’re ~ a semi tlulSey’ nature. The famous Idaho sweep was tried once but was “A failure. due perhaps TO the condition of the field, Manager ShaTman seemed TO think more Of the sale OF tickets than placing tho grdiron in shape for a good contest. Two hours work with n horse and sCrapcr would have cleared the field and the people would have been treated TO first-class contest. AS II was the interest Of the spectators was of secondary consIderation. Their money was taken at the gate. and II they did not like the game they could go homo. Sharman, In the opinion OF many who saw the game, may be d good student. but as a football manager he has certainly proved a fail ure. Six of the ~” men-Captain Convill, Mopahan. Snow, Walker. Gardner and Brown--6n!sh their football careers for the university with this game, The lineup was as follows:

The forward pass was used once successfully BY Utah, but her ether attempt failed, a. did all Of Idaho.s. Both the teams finally res0sted q kicking on the FIRST down and this met with poor success on account og the frozen condition Of the oval. The eentsEs ot beth teams used their hands % shovel a hole IN the snow IN order 70 pass the bali and nnaily ahovels were introduced b. both teams to clear the Geld for the kiek. ers. About one kick in three went through. the others slipped on the toe Of the kicker’a shoe to some an known and unexpected angle. Neither teams goal line was in danger from touehdowns.
