KANSAS WINS. JayhaWkers Easily Triumph Over Cornhuskers. Also Practically Earn Missouri Valley Championship. SCORE WAS 20 TO <. SCORE WAS 20 TO 5. Kennedy’s Teams Strength Sur. prise of Season. Was First Defeat of Year for Nebraskans. 4NOSA SDSANAASs Lincoln, Neb, Nov. 1.-the K. U. football team simply smothered the Cornhuskers Saturday to the tune of 20 to 5, which score by the way, really does not indicate how clearly Ken nedy’s charges outplayed the Nebraska eleven as Kansas advanced the ball on straight football five yards to the Corn huskers’ one. The Jayhawkers out kicked, outgeneraled and outclassed the Cornhuskers at every stage of the game. To make the defeat all the more crushing it seems probable that Ne braska must now cancel her scheduled game with the Carlisle Indians as that game to be played in December was on condition that Nebraska went through the season without defeat, While the whole team played grand football, to Johnson and Dahlene must go a great deal of the credit. Dahlene made the two touchdowns, kicked the two goals and also kicked a goal from the field, while johnson, Kansas quarterback thrilled the thousands in at tendance time and again with his spec tacular returning of punts, once run ming a distance of sixty yards to the Nebraska three yard line before he was downed. SCHEDULE TOO STRENUOUS COrnhusker Players and Coach GIVE This as Reason for Their Defeat MEMBERS OF TEAM ARE STALE No Inclination TO Decry The Ntctory of Kansas or ~InsinuRte the SUM nower Men Did Not Out- play Nebraska. Tf LINCOLN, Nov. 15.-(Special)-The Corn huskers. although all their fondest aspiratons were rudely dashed away by the jay hawkers, are not discouraged and are CONS to begin practice this week with the determination to lick wabash on Thanks giving and the Carlisle Indians on Decem- Der 2 The defeat Saturday came as a sur prise to Nebraska, and was the hardest blow that has fallen into the Cornhusker camp in years. Nebraska’s foot ball team this season was believed to be the strongest that the state institution has had since 1902, when the Cornhuskers under Bunny Booth, went through the season without a defeat. After Minnesota had been tied and Iowa and Ames humbled, 1t looked as though Kansas and the rest of the teams on the schedule would be easy victims. But the Jayhawkers proved to be the worst kind OF ~tartars. and now the CornhMskers see what things proved their undoing. Nobody in the Nebraska camp claims that Kansas did not outplay the Cornhuskers. 1t is freely admitted that the visitors were superior in every department of the game. and there is no discredlting the victory OF the men from the Sunflower state. The Nebraska coach and the players themselves lay the cause Of their defeat to a too severe and long schedule. II is claimed that tn Cornhuskers, nor any other team, could play four hard games within five weeks without having reversal of form. Coach Cole says the men were stale yes terday and could not play their best game II they had played as they did at Omaha against Ames the result probably would have been different. rnhuske Are stale. roAsat -. - H. y.-tt-- discussing the game this afternoon. said that the defeat came as a direct result OF too hard a schedule. None of our men played his best game yesterday and we lost because we were stale. Kansas outplayed us yesterday, ana l think they have a great team. But the trouble with us was that we had played too many hard games. You must remember that we have played Minnesota, Haskell, Iowa, Ames and Kansas all within the short space of five weeks. Iowa and Ames used our men up and when it came to yes terday none Of them could play foot ball. None of the men laid down, you under stand. They all played as hard as they could. Kansas was fresh, however, this being their first hard game, and they beat U.S. The Cornhuskers have one complaint which they make against Kansas. They claim that the Jawhawkers knew all OF their plays and whenever one of them was called that Kennedy’s men were ready for IL. Those Jayhawkcrs knew everyone of our plays” said Quarterback Cooke in discus sin gthe game this afternoon. Whenever ! called a play they would yell out to each other to watch certain players. When would call for Chaloupka TO carry the ball they immediately would know the signal and would cry Watch Chaloupka.’ or II “A would give a signal on which was TO make a quarterback run they would cry. Look out for that quarterback rum Looks Suspicious.
