NAVY DEFEATS LEHIGH Northcr0ft Kicks Great Goal from Field from 49-Yard Line. Annapolis Oct 17.-LehISh put up an excellent game against the midshipmen this afternoon though defeated by the score OF 16 10 o The game was the longest vet played here this season-two a-mnute halves being payed-and the contest was by far the best Of the year. The Navy backs had much trouble in making impression on the Isehigh line, most Of their gains being accomplished on end runs or through a broken field An incident Of the game which will pass into athletic tradition at the academy was Captain NorthCroft’s field goal from placement from the +s-yard line made toward the close OF the game. While field goal from q spot -ifty-two yards from the goal line is recorded, II held after free catch, when there was little annoyance from the opposing players. Northcroft kicked the goal today from the regular lineup, il being received by Mason from the centre. Next in point Of brilliancy was Lange7s run OF sixty yards early in the first half which earned the Nays first score LANCE received the ball past midheld after 1t had been punted by Martin and eluded all of the Lehigh tacklers, putting the ball directly behind the goal The second touchdown was made toward the close Of the half b. Richardson. after a forward pass from LANCE to Reifsnider and runs by Jones and Dalton had put the ball within striking dis lance. Lehigh was better both attack and defence in the second half and it looked as If the half would end with blanks wheH Northcroft lifted his 1nagnifcent field goal The summary follows:
