WINS FROM GEORGETOWN Pennsylvania Scores Triumph over Michigan, and Indians the vic,ors over minnesota--Harvard humlli. atea by Decisive Drubbins at the Hands of Dartmouth-other Games Once more Yale is the undisputed champion OF the football field OF the | United States. by its victory over Princeton yesterday Old ELI gained the I premier position beyond all doubt II has only one more big game to play |, and as that is with Harvard. n second ! rate team this season, there can hard | ~ be single doubt but what the result will b. The result yesterday | WAS something OF surprise. not that Yale won. Int because the Tiger gave the New Haven institution such a | terrific and close battle. Many OF the experts believed that Princeton would | not even score, 10 say nothing of COM ! ing within only two points of the championship. There Is no nukc about Yalc’s position. II has been won by hard consistent work and 1t isl more or less OF n triumph for old fashioned straight football. Yale has not resorted to many tricks this aea. son, but has developed plays that call ed for line plunges and lots of kick ing. 1t was in the latter department that Yale excclled Princeton, and III was good toe work that won for Ola ELI. rennslyvania’s decisive victory over the University OF Michigan. which is regarded 40 the best team in the Middle West. places the Yost crowd way back in the rear. us the same eleven could not get In the first division among the Eastern colleges this season. They would come aloag about with West Point, Navy, Am herst, Williams and Brown. The Car a their victory over Minnesota when II IS considered that they had to travel about 1900 miles. and did not have time TO fully recover from the long journey before they went on the field. Minnesota proved herself very strong among the Western and North western colleges this year, but the Indians victory shows that II would not secure n high lating II 1t was COM peting against the Eastern colleges. In fact the Pennsylvania and Mich igan and Indian and Minnesota games show conclusively that the stronger Western elevens have no right to be put IN the same class with the big Eastern teams. The victory that the University Of Virginia secured over Georgetown was more than satisfactory to the admirer. OF tho navy blue and orange. The Charlottesville players were not at all confident after their defeat a week ago at the hands of Washington and Lee. but they more than redeem ed themselves yeste. day. Harvard. by its miserable showing yesterday cannot be classed among the big four” or even the big ten this season. There are at least that number OF elevens i’ll the East that could defeat the crimson on the grid /. on this year. Cornell met and defeated the strong Swarthmore eleven. and no mistake will probably be made 10 regard the Ithaca eleven as stand ing next to Yale this season. with Princeton in tho third position.
