NAVY IS OUTCLASSED SWarthmOre Wins a Clean cut Victory. oBRIEN SCORES IL POINTS QunISers’ Little Quarter Back Boots Rail- Between the UprfEhts for Three Goals from the Field, While Other scores Come from Touchdown Made by OId-time Line Smashing. special to The Washington Herald. Special to The Washington Herald Annapolis, Nd, Nov. 9.-The husky eleven Of Swarthmore College admins tered a decisive defeat to the Annapolis midshipmen here this afternoon, by Is TO O. The locals We’re completely outclaSsed and outplayed at all stages OF the contest. and at no time was NE visitors goal line endangered. Swarthmore regards the vic tory as notable one. and the players are overjoyed. Last year Annapolis won to l. Although twelve Of Swarthmore’s total Of eighteen points Were scored on field goals by O’Brien, the little Quaker quarter back. the visitors. with their smashing attacks, simply tore the MILDLY line to pieces. Except for the occasional use Of a double or delayed pass. in which the Quakers had been drilled principally for to-day’s contest, they employed STAY ing tactics. and nearly every play was good for from to 10 yards And at times Pritchard and Williams, the fast and heavy pair Of backs. would break through tackle for gains Of 10 TO % yards. Middies BewfIdered. Although outweighed by their oppenents. the middies seemed completely bewiIdered at the surprising strength shown by the Quaker aggregation. On the other hand, the sailor lads soon found themselves powerless to gain on plays directed at the line. nor did the short-end plays amount TO much of a gain. Consequently, they fell back on kicking throughout the greater part Of the game, and Capt. Douglass got of some long and well-placed ones. This kept the ball well out of danger. The redeeming feature OF the middies’ work was their desperate stand when Swarthmore approached their goal line. on all save one occasion they repealed the attack at those times. rs may be judged from the three field goals kicked by O’Brien. The visitors made a whirlwind start. and il was not long before they had worked the ball to Navy’s Is yard line. when O’Brien kicked his first goal. Shortly after this, they began a steady march toward Navy’s goal from the 4O-yard line, and McDonough made the only touchdown Of the game. All this happened in the first half. In the second period O’Brien’s toe proved true enough TO kick two more goals out of three chances.

CLEARLY TOO MUCH FOR THE MlDD|ES SWarthmore Gives the Navy Its Worst Defeat of the Season. % ANNAPOLIS, Nd, November e-The Naval Academy foot ball eleven was defeated here this afternoon by a heavier and better team, Swarthmore administer ing the dose to the extent OF Is points to 0. O’Brien’s skillfully directed toe was responsible for 13 of these points, as he lifted three goals from the field and kick ed the goal from McDonogue’s touch down, but the excellent work of the whole team was responsible for the fact that the ball was brought in striking distance OF the goal. In fact, the last field goal the visitors were not compelled to kick and could probably have made an other touchdown, but IL looked as if they were trying 10 give O’Brien chance To make a record for himself. His three goals were distinctly a record for the local field
