GEORGETOWN LOSES TO VIRGINIA TECH, GAME SPIRITLESS Frequent Fumbles Figure in the WaShingtonianS’ Defeat. RICHMOND, Va, Nov. 5.-Georgetown met defeat at the hands Of Virginla Polytechnic Institute yesterday by 20 to 0 in forty-five minutes of play. Before the game the odds were 2 to ! IN Georgetown’s favor, but the first few minutes of play put stop to the betting on this or any other basis. It was an Of day for both teams, and mistakes could hardly have been more frequent had the game been played on wet grounds Saturday. Both teams attempted the forward pass frequently, and each succeeded twice. The ball was several times knocked out of the Georgetown backs hands, and Georgetown usually obtained the ball when the play was essayed by its opponents Both teams made a large percentage Of their gains in kicking, a department which was the one redeeming feature. Ragged Playing. The mistakes of each other, rather than good football, kept the score down to TO in the first half V. p. I. scored near the end Of the half, when. with the ball within thirty yards of the goal, L.uttereH skirted George towns right end for a touchdown he shouldn’t have made had the visitors been on their toes Georgetown seemed 10 lose heart in the second half, and it’s spiritless play allowed Tech to gain almost at will. CAPTAIN Diffendal was 4 hOOdOo for the visitors. and he frequently broke through the Georgetown line for pro nuunced gains, Cooper, who went In for sheppard at quarter. after the first few minutes of play kicked a clean field goal from the 45-yard line after three unsuccessful attempts. He took long chances on this way of scOring, which. had they panned out. would have been extremely sensational
