PENN SHOWS A BIC PR0VEMENT Defeats Lafayette by Is to 0 in a Game Devoted to Old Fashioned Foot Ball. PHILADELPHIA, November 2.-On a field soaked with a driving rain which hardly. let up for an instant, the University of Pennsylvania foot ball team defeated Lafayette in their annual game on Franklin Field today by the score OF Is to o. The field was in such miserable condition and the ball SO slippery that the new foot ball was out of the question Pennsylvania realized this at once and devoted all its energy to old-fashioned foot ball. The Quaker backs assumed the burden of attack and plunged through the Lafaycite line and tore around the ends until three touchdowns had been scored, two in the first half and one in the Sec ond. The Eastonians had the advantage of stiff wind, and consequently resort ed to the kicking game almost constantly. While the work Of the Pennsylvania team was not all that could be desired. 1t was a great improvement on the form exhibited in the Indian game week ago. There was more cohesion in the attack than has been seen in any game this year, with the possible exception of the Brown contest. The Lafayette eleven was somewhat of q disappointment. The line was heavier by nearly ten pounds to the man than the Penn eleven, but the men were slow in charging and were outplayed by the Quakers.
