Lafayette, Ind, Nov. 24.-Illinois won closely contested game from Purdue on Stuart field today, the score being to 0. 49,. The game was one Of the fercest Of the season and in the first half neither side scored. Onside kicks and forward passes were features, both teams using these new ground gamers effectively. . Gardner was the star Of the Illinois team, making gain after gain for his team thru the line, around end and on forward passes. Illinois nearly scored in the second half, but Purdue held on the eight-yard line Purdue used the onside kick repeatedly and Spencer made one run of forty yards that put the ball on Illinois ten-yard line. . :. Purdue advanced it to the fve-yard line and then Illinois held. There was considerable fumbling by both sides. In the second half Purdue had the bali on its own forty-yard line. Reed dropped back for a kick-out. It was q short one, and the ball sailed into Pet tlgreW’s arms. He lodged four men and ran for touchdown, Miles slip ping when he was about to bring down the Illinois back. = . = Purdue had the ball close to the Hi nois goal just before the game ended.   Ames Defeats Iowa. Iowa City, Iowa, Nov. 25.-The tumble of punt by Iowa followed by blocked punt which rolled behind the goal line gave Ames two points and the state championship. Ames excelled in punting and in returning punts. Ames 2, Iowa 0. Illinois Win at Last. Lafayette, Ind, Nov. 25.-Purdue was defeated by Illinois at football on Stuart Field by score of 5 to 0.
