GOPHERS GO FAST In SECOND HALF Patched Up Team Defeats Law renee by Score Of = Z .H@s~ 46–0. , = 80 list OF victims yesterday afternoon at Northrop field. The score was 46 to 0, higher than the score Chicago made against Koehler S plucky team, and kindergarten than the score of 81 to 0 madeEagainst them by Phil Kings rea patshed-up team, and the final figures were reached after a slow first half, marred by fumbling. + ‘z%..ss Lawrence was lighter than the gophers, hut the visiting players put. up plucky fight thruout the game. Mime sofa Won by sPeeding ling up the sp sS as it the score 10 to 0 in favor of Mime sofa, and the rooters began to wonder – If the gophers had caught tartar. The secord half started slow, but Minnesota speed began to assert itself. Touchdo ~, Il followed touchdown in rapid succession. Thi.ty-six points were rolled up, and another touchdown was but twenty sec on6b distant when the whistle sounded creased speed in the second half was tbs feature Of the day. It was their – fastest work this year on Northrop fed. Football enthusiasts-we who went TO the field to get line on what Min nesota will do against Wisconsin-were doomed to disappointment. The team which trotted out on the field and lined up for preliminary practice was oddly constituted. Ittner, Brush and Current we’re out. and Shuknecht, Smith and Czech took their places. Oech and Smith we’re in as tackles, and Shuknecht played the fullback position. The play itarted off slowly, and there was much If getting in each other s way and fun bling. played together, and after it was found – hat Lawrence was powerless to gain thru the line or on end runs the gophrs plucked up courage and went after heir opponents in slashing style. Lar lin had bad time with his punt catch ng and gave way to- WeltZel IN the second half. Weitzel succeeded IN get; ting the team up to stiff speed and did no little bali Juggling himself. lit, ner went in as a guard in the second half, replacing Vita, and Smith gave way to Asher. These were the only changes made by Minnesota turnout the afternoon. variety to do anything with Mime. sofas defense. There was strain of trick play running thru it all, and the criss cross, delayed pass and double pass were tried on several occasions. Rarely were they of ground-gaining Efficiency. Minnesota depended upon, straight bucks into the line, and end runs FOR for the Anpletonians, and first downs were too common to be of moment. Law renee, tho, rallied splendidly, at times, and once or twice when the gopher quarterback did not choose his play carefully on the third down the ball went to Koehler’s men thru Inability of their rivals to gain the desired dis tance. It was an interesting game to watch but did not give the enthusiasts or ex perts any line on what may be expect | ed in the Wisconsin game. AS Wiscon sins football mentor occupied a box at the center Of the field there may have been more Of method than chance in the absence of true line on the win, and that seemed to be all thai was required. The afternoon was an ideal one TO- The players, but almost too chilly TOthe spectators. A large crowd hat gathered for the freshman deaf-and dumb team and there were about fou thousand rooters in the stand and OF The outside of the Enclosure around tn gridiron when the ball was kicked of Governor John A. johnson and part.
