GLORIOUS YALE VICTORY. CRIMSON DOWEED IN SPLENDID GAME 12-O. sperry’s Kick Made Second Possible Yale Did Not Change Her Line-Up During the Entire Game. Before a multitude that filled almost every seat in the huge Yale field foot ball stands and numbered 52,oOO or more persons the Yale football team of 1904 defeated the eleven from fair liar yard in splendidly contested game by the same score as that by which it de- feated the Tigers, F to 0. Harvard unquestionably put up a fine article of football, and Yale was compelled to work hard for it’s sc6res. No long runs were made during the |. game, the longest being the running back of punts by Shevlin and Rockwell, who made runs of about twenty yards and the twenty yard run of Bloomer, who picked up the ball when Tripp blocked Sperry’s punt and carried it within four yards of Harvard’s goal line. At one time Mills got the ball with almost clear field, but was brought low by Hogan before he had made many yards. ...e. s .~.a- The game was little late in start ing, the teams not coming upon the field until after ? o’clock. There was little delay after they once got on the field, however. Harvard won the toss and chose the south goal, Yale taking the kick off. Roraback opened the game with pretty kick and the game was under way. ..s.- -........ ..s... rs... EgH5 Yale’s attack plugged through liar wards line for short, irresistible gains and the ball slowly approached the Crimson goal line. But the Harvard defense stiffened as the yards between the ball and their goal diminished, and at their 15-yard line Yale was held for downs. Harvard was utterly pow erless to gain through the first half, getting first down only once by rush. ing. Harvard punted and Yale had to try again. The entire half was, con- stunned in these repeated journeys of the Yale team down into Haryard’s danger ground and it was not until few min- utes from the close of the half that Morse was finally showed over for the first touchdown. which placed Yale in the lead Hoyt kicked a pretty goal Instead of weakening in the second half Harvard seemed to play even fiercer than before. They were more successful than in the first half in gain ing ground, and the contest continued close. Yale succeeded in forcing it’s way through the Harvard line in pret- ty style, and the ball had been advanc- ed to the Harvard 2-yard line when tumble gave the ball to Harvard, and the Harvard stands sent up roar of delight. The ball see-sawed up and down before the Harvard goal chang ing hands frequently on kicks or fun- bles until finally Harvard got the ball near her 25-yard line. Failing to gain Sperry attempted to kick. Tripp broke through and blocked the kick as clean ly as 1t could be done, and as the ball rolled toward the Crimson goal Bloomer picked it I’D and plunged forward like flash of lightning. He was tackled just about four yards from the line, and it took two rushes for Finn to take the ball over. Hoyt coolly drove the ball between the posts and the score was 12 to 0. The remainder of the game was hotly contested, neither sides goal being threatened. One great fact that Yale has to boast of is that not one Yale man was taken out Of the game. The lineup remained unchanged throughout the entire game, although Yale was playing a hard con- test against a heavier team. This speaks volumes for Yale’s physical condition. Before Nearly $4,000 People Blue Defeats Rival II to 0. HARVARD DEFENSE STRONG Dartmouth Line Crossed BY Brown for First Time This Season, but Hanover Boys Win IL to S. New Haven, Conn, Nov. 10. Nale’s prestige on the gndiron was advanced another peg this afternoon in the VIC tory over Harvard BY score Of i2 TO 0. While Capt. Hogan’s team won IN a most decisiy manner, it failed to come up to the expectations Of its more ar dent admirers as an irresistible scoring machine. This was due to the fighting spirit which Capt. Hurley had infused into Harvard. There was no great strength to tile Harvard attack, but on the defensive Harvard met her opponent’s rushes with such stubborn resistance that it took almost the entire frst half for Yale to earn a touchdown. During this time the play was entirely in IIarvard’s territory with the crimson fighting desperately to prevent Yale from scoring. After several attempts t. cross the crimson goal line had been foiled, Yale got together in all Of her strength and began rushing game on her own 54yard line, that swept all before it. In exactly PUSHES Yale push ed the ball over for touchdown. On these series OF rushes Harvard was twice penalized, five yards Tor olf-side play and when Yale had the ball inside OF the iive-yard line Harvard was again penalized for of side and was set back half the distance Yale had to make, and then Morse was slammed over for the score, with the whole team helping him. Dnring the remainder Of tie first half Harvard successfully defended her goal line, but could not do any damage to Yale In the second half Harvard was lust as strong, if not stronger, on the defensive and played her best when Yale was on the point Of scoring, Yale would probably have not scored at all ia the second half If it had not been for 4 blocked kick Kinney repeated his performance Of the Princeton game and broke through, blocking Sperry’s kick, and the ever alert Bloomer picked up the ball and rushed with it 10 Harvard’s three-yard line where he WAS downed by Mills Within striking distance Of touchdown Yale again sprang at Harward and Finn scored the touchdown, Hoyt kicked both goals in a very fin ished manner, and his kicking through ont the game was 81 q very high order rhe game was played in the presence q $1,000 spectators, and il was the most perfect football weather of the entire season All Of the conditions were extremely favorable for great contest but on the whole the match was not on Il par with former Harvard and Yale games in spectacular play. There was nothing Of sensational nature during The entire game Yale went through both halves without a single change in her lineup, while several shifts were made in the crimson line, and, All told Harvard played Is men.
