PRICE ONE GENT MIDDIES IMPROVE. MAKE A 60OD SHOWIRG AGAINST BUCK NELL THOUGH DEFEATED 23 TO 5, The result OF the game last Saturday between Bucknell and the Navy was not SO diScouraging as the score p TO in favor OF Bucknell-would seem 10 indicate. The Middies put up by far the best game they have played this season. In fact, during the early part of the first half. encouraged by the excellent roofing of the brigade. and aided by tumble on the part of their opponents. they had things pretty much their own way, and scored touchdown after about seven minutes of play. The gains for this touchdown were made chiefly by Halsey and Strassburger. The angle for the goal was rather difficult, but the kick was SO low that il would have failed from any position The energy used up for this touchdown took the edge off the team, and from the next line up it was plainly evident that the local eleven was outclassed. The men played with desperate spirit, several times succeeding in checking the on slaughts of the enemy. and once or twice making some gains on their own account. but it was all of no avail. The attack of the visitors was irresistible. The Puck hNAi INV was 9Ai0iik Aitl AObi~ pact. and the backs were the largest men ever seen here in their positions, There was practically no variety 10 their play, the backs being drawn up in tandem formation. and the entire weight Of one wing being directed on either of the tackles. BY steadily ploughing away in this fashion touchdown was scored in the remainder of the first half, and two more in the second half. When the game was nearly over Buck. nell was checked in its advance at the Navys 3S-yard line. After three downs, a place kick was attempted by Fullback Johnson. with the assistance of Quarter back Smith. The attempt was brilliantly successful, the ball passing directly over the bar = Johnson’s kicking was decided ly the feature Of the game The result Of the game emphasizes the fact that the Midshipmen are seriously handicapped in their contests with strong col ege teams for two reasons first, because they do not have sufficient opportunity for practice secondly, because they are, as rule, younger and lighter than their opponents.
