AGAINST ILLINI ENGLEWOOD HIGH school, REGIS TERED A PLACE KICK. addened by This Inroad on Its Glory, Illinois BuckIed Down and Piled Up q Score of a. to 3. Special to the Indianapolis Journal. 1tNNfe@ N| O1Ahe URBANA, ILL.,, Sept. 19.-The Englewood enthal, the famous Illinois center, treated the ~latter’s alma mater to a ~disagreeable surprise to-day. when they scored by means of a place kick. The high schoolers lost to the State team by a score of As to 5, but they had the satisfaction of scoring. 1t was Full Back Searcy who earned fame for his team by kicking the pigskin square ly over the goal posts on a beautiful place kick. Maddened by this inroad on their glory the Illini buckled down and added touchdown after touchdown, but all the scoring did not wipe away the five glazing points made by Captain Badenoch’s nervy little team. Tn showing of the Illini left the rooters still in the dark as to the merits of the men. Coach Woodruff himself was Disguised at the insane work the first half, and gave vent to his feelings on the side lines. This looks like a kindergarten game” said the coach, and the bleachers re-echoed the dis appointment, while the high schoolers kept right on and STAYED off touchdown after touchdown by taking advantage of loose playing on the part of their big opponents. For the Illini their leader, Rothgeb. was the star. OF the new men Hannum. who was tried at full back. heard the plaudits of the bleachers time and time again by his playing. Coach Lowenthal impartially practiced the Englewood team for their stubborn battle against odds. 1t took ILL., nois some time to score. Englewood then tied with the place kick, but that was all they could do. Two more touchdowns came in the first half. and i’m the second, playing with an impetus due to words from Wood ruff, the Illini added to touchdowns till the total score reached As.
