conference victorles-10-8 over William g. Mary and 9–8 over Furman-have been on Gilgo’s field goals. Last week his extra point enabled the Bulldogs to beat non conference Xavier, 7–6. Gilgo. who also is an excellent pasS-catching end and a good blocker and defensive player, has kicked enght of IL extra points this season and three field goals. Without Gilgo’sI kicking, The Citadel’s record would be 2–3 instead of Al in the conference, and Sal in stead of So against all comers. Other good kickers in the Southern Conference include Warren Corbin of George Wash ington, 2 for 2 in field goals and IL for IA in conversions, and Aster Sizermore of Virginia Tech, with one field goal and seven extra points in eight tries. Sizemore’s field goal was the difference over Florida State last week, 1917. What an advertisement for the contact lens industry John Hadl of Kansas is! In his first four games he showed only flashes of the form that had made him one of the country’s top backs the previous years. Then he got his contact lenses. First time out against Okla homa, he completed seven of 13 passes, one for a touchdown, as he led the Jayhawkers to a 1910 victory. 1t merely was a warm up for what he did last Saturday against Oklahoma State: he ran for one touchdown. passed for two others, ck-kicked “a yards (actually credited as “a because it rolled into the end zone and they take off 20 yards for that, recovered a tumble to set up a touchdown and tossed a key block that Sprang loose a runner on another touchdown. “I thought could see” John said, But it’s amazing what I’ve been missing” + Can Halfback Gus Giardi of Syracuse be blamed if he thinks football is an easy game? A sophomore, he played for the first time last week against Holy Cross. He carried the ball eight times and picked up six first downs. Nothing to it. And there’s that Washington State freshman player, Dennis McCurdy. who missed the team bus to the Oregon State frosh game. He hitchhiked the 400 miles mine rides) in time to catch two touchdown passes in a 1920 victory.
