GOAL LINE U.NIC|R0ssED. Nebraska Defeats Northwestern by Score Of IL to o-Nebraska Makes Complaint. Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 2S.--The football season OF 1902 at the University Of Ne braska was terminated yesterday in a blaze of glory. The unbeaten corn nusKers administered a decisive defeat to the Northwestern university eleven, scoring ~ points and emerging from the contest with their own goal lines still uncrossed. ! Booth. the Nebra ska coach, and his pupils charge that Hall, the umpire, ex captain of Illinois university, was grossly UNFAIR. Eleven times the cornhuskers were penalized, seven of which were for holding the punishment each time being the loss OF the ball. Most of the penal ties came after Nebraska had carried the ball far into their opponents territory and the surrender OF. the oval absolutely precluued any possibility of piling UP score on the Methodists. :. :. - A summary Of the gains scored bv both teams shows that Nebraska advanced the ball 3S6 yards as opposed to 1874, for northwestern. Twice the Methodists held Nebraska for downs and compelled a punt while the cornhusl1ers’ defense was of sufficient virility either to capture the Dall on downs or force Baird to punt on seven different occasions. .-.--.>. ..-- Hollister, Northwesterns coach. in. dis cVssing the game, said: ‘‘Northw estern was IN good physical condition, all things considered. and the men came nearer paying to the, limit Of their. capability than at any time during the year, I:be- !leve we would have scored in the first half with a minute or two longer to p1avs” :. NEBRAsKA’s GOOD RECORD. Not Scored Against During the Season -Northwestern Beaten. LINCOLN. Neb., Nov. 27.-The University Of Nebraska finished the season to-day without once having been scored against by defeating Northwestern University IL to O. The game was the hardest Nebraska has played the home field this year. Over 5000 persons witnessed the struggle. To-days score makes a total of 1SS points scored by Nebraska, against none by her opponents. The character of Ne braska’s work, however, fails to place the team in the coveted ranks of the leaders of the big nine. To-day was bright and crisp and the field was perfect. During the last part of the first half Northwestern seemed almost certain to score, but time was called with the ball on Nebraska’s fve-yard line The punting of Benedict for Nebraska was a feature, one of his punts going nearly sixty yards. Both teams tried place kicks several times, but both failed Van Ryper and Sabin did excellent work for Northwestern, while Benedict and Nickel were the Nebraska stars Nickel made both touchdowns.
