Bowl Lineup, College Titles Still Unsettled The 1859 college football season. an unpredictable and confusing thing from the start, heads into its final stages with almost as many unanswered questions as a soap operas last act. Will Louisiana State and Penn State decide today to accept the bowl invitations that already have been proffered? Can Syracuse, after an extra week of rest. survive the really potent threat of UCLA and fin ish the season as the only unbeaten and united major team? How will the deciding games in the Ivy League and the Southern, Missouri Valley and Southwest Conferences come out Thanksgiving Day? And will Saturdays 60th Army–Navy game in Philadelphia retain its attractiveness and glamor in spite of the mediocre records Of the two teams? Only One Bowl Filled So far, only one of the major bowl games is set with two teams. Three others have firm acceptances from one team while the Gator Bowl has a conditional acceptance. Syracuse is idle this week before meeting UCLA, which knocked Southern California from the unbeaten list, 1913. Texas Needs Victory Missouri earned a place in the Orange Bowl by beating Kansas, 1873, to take second place in the Big Eight behind Oklahoma, which won its 18th straight title. Texas Christian accepted a bid to play in the December 19 Bluebonnet Bow at Houston after whipping Rice 35–6. Arkansas, discounting its chances for an undisputed Southwest Conference title and an automatic bid to play Syracuse in the Cotton Bowl, al ready has committed itself conditionally to the Gator Bowl January 2. Texas can tie Arkansas in the conference title by beating Texas A8SM Thursday, and TCU can do it by whipping South ern Methodist Saturday. In the event of a tie, Texas gets the Cotton Bowl bid. Louisiana State is No. l on the list for the Sugar Bowl, which is contemplating a replay of the LSU- Mississippi game. LSU players are slated to vote on the matter this evening.
