.vkI’sSpeed .HauntsChances .0fCo|oniaIs night early for the George Washington football players when an old bugaboo, speed. arrives to haunt them tomorrow night at Griffith Stadium. Many of GW’s misfortunes this season have been due to speed-the lack of it on the part of the Colonials and an excess of it among their opponents. Tomorrow night the Colonials play Virginia Military at Grit fifth Stadium in their last 1859 home game, and the Keydets have plenty of speed. Three dash men from the track team are in the start ing backfield for VMI, headed by Fullback Sam Horner, a 81 runner. Just about as fast are the soph. halfbacks, John Traynham and Stinson Jones. Fastest Since 1920 The Keydets admit that this years team has been the most explosive since the days of their unbeaten Flying Squadron Of 1920. They have the speed for all-the-way plays from any spot on the field, an example of which was the 86-yard scoring run by Traynham against Rich mond. The KeydetS also have three good quarterb acks – they haven’t even decided which to start against CIV tomorrow highland it all adds up to making them about 10-point favorites over the Colonials VMI has a 4-1-1 record for a season originally tabled as a rebuilding one, with a 500 rec ord as the goal. CIV is is, and last week was beaten 14–7 by William & Mary, a team the Keydets trimmed, 26–7. Keydets Fear HinO Despite. these comparative records, the word from Lexington, the VMI home base, is that the Keydets have worries of their own about the Colonials. Scouting reports prepared by Vito Ragazzo, a VMI assistant coach, have had the Keydets working extra hard on pass defenSeS. The reason is that Ragazzo says. ED Hino (the CIV quarterback) is a fine pasSer and Bill Smythe CHS favorite tar get) is as good an end as there is in this league” His report warns the Keydet squad that ANY play is a potential touch down when Hino is in the ball game” The potential of which Ragazzo speaks hasn’t quite been realized, since limos passes have accounted for only two touchdowns. But he is a threat and has completed enough passes to be ranked seventh nationally this week. The CIV plan is for him to run the team the entire time on Of tense tomorrow night, getting bis relief while the Colonials are on defense.
