APPOINT Pick in Night Test Middies Hoping To End Losses, But Fear Curci The Navy football squad left today for the sunshine Of Miami Beach and tomorrow nights game against the Uni versity of Miami with no danger of taking Fran Curci lightly. Beaten by Southern Meth odiSt and Syracuse on success sive Saturdays, the Midshipmen are determined that streak will not be extended by a Hurricane team that was strong enough to give top-ranked Louisiana State a rough battle for almost three quarters last week before losing, 27–3. A crowd of $1,000 is expected for tomorrow nights game in the Orange Bowl. The MiddieS are favored by 4 points. There are those who don’t know any better than to laugh at the first look at Curci, Miami’s little quarterback. Only 15O-POunder you look at him.” says Steve Belichick, assistant coach and chief scout for Navy, land you think he should be playing 150-pound football” AS an afterthought, Steve adds, Come to think of it, I wish he WERE” Curci is a 5-foot-9, 152-pound senior, who is threatening to rewrite the career records for his school in passing and total offenSe. He is third high in number of pass competitions and yards gained passing, and second best in total offense and number of touchdown passes. Not often do you see a quarterback of that size playing in the competition he plays in do ing as we’ll as he does” says Belichick, who watched Curci against LSU and Tulane. Passes Left Handed Hes tough to get at. He’ll roll out to his left and wind up and throw the ball way out to the right end. He’s a dam gerous runner because he’s so clever. He’s a left-handed passer and very good at it. And he’s tough. He’s got to be to be so small and play the way he does without getting hurt” Navy, bitter over its loss to SMU, a game it feels it should have won, has no such feelings about the loss to Syracuse. 1--WE have no alibis,” says Head Coach Wayne Hardin. eve got beat by a fine ball club.
