  Underdog Southern Method ist hopes to upset the Texas Aggies-the Nations No. l team---in the top Saturday col leee football game. Tonight’s game at College Station, Tex, follows an after noon marked by the renewal of many traditional games. The Miami Hurricanes opened the week end of gridiron activtiles with 40–⁠13 trouncing of Florida State last night at Tallahassee. Florida State sur ‘prised by holding a 7–⁠6 lead at the half. But the Hurricanes roared back in the second half to crush the Seminoles. The passing Of Fran Curci. a 1872 pound mite at quarterback, and the power running of Byron Blasko and Joe Plevel spanked Miami’s second-half rally. Fresh from their surprise win over Texas a week ago. the Southern Methodist Mustangs are eager to knock the unbeaten Aggies from their lofty national perch and also tumble the Southwestern Conference race. The Aggies are favored to win their 14th victory in a row and the eighth straight this season by at least 10 points. Oklahoma and Auburn, the Nations No. 2 and 3 ranked teams. also were expected tc win by 10 points. The other top-ranked teams likewise were favored although Iowa, Ohio State, Navy and Tennessee. expected to have tight battles. Oklahoma tried for its 47th straight victory in a Big Eight title game with an up-andcoming Missouri team that bet tered the Sooners’ victory mar gin over Colorado. Auburn hoped to march toward the Southeastern Conference crown with its seventh straight al the expense Of onee-beaten Mississippi State. Time-Henored Rivals In most sections the accent was heavy on regional conference championships and the glory of beating a time honorec rival.
