JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Dec 81 R.-At 1859 pm. today Don Orr was q doubtful starter in the 18th annual Gator Bowl football game. A little less than three hours later the slim young Vanderbilt quarterback was the hero Of the game, owner of two touchdowns running and another passing In the Commodores’ 25–13 victory over Auburn. His teammates hoisted Orr to their shoulders, carried him Oh the field and pummeled him In the dressing room. Sports writer’s were unanimous In voting him the most valuable player for the winning team. And Coach Art Guepe Of Van derbilt said simply and sincerely Orr was the finest player on the field” Looked Bad In Practice Guepe described the dressing room scene a few minutes before the 2:15 kickoff. “Orr hadn’t hit q lick in practice,” Guepe said. 1--WE didn’t know for sure his elbow had recovered from the injury in the final regular season game against Tennessee. Il was going to start Tommy Harkins at quarterback If we kicked of and said so to the team. Something like q tear came up in Orr’s eye. so said to him, Are you ready?’ He said he was. 20 ! said. Get in there” Harkins started at his usual end position, Orr at quarter back, and as Guepe summed it
