HAD A TOUGH !. Fight ! !. | | Nebraska Surprised at the Stubborn . Game Put Up by Colorado !: University Eleven. Cornhuskers Were Only Able to Score Through the Errors Of : /. Their Opponents. :! Reports Of Nebraska’s game with Colorado; Saturday. indicate that Booths team has not huskers’ scores were due to errors on the part Of Colorado. In the first half the westerners fumbled on their thirty yard line, and Nebraska second half. Colorado had kick blocked Mt their own seven-yard line. Then it was an easy mat ter to push the ball over. --z| = -...e ~. Nebraska won principally by her superiority In the kicking game Although the .Cornhuskers far outweighed their opponents, the Colorado men put up strong defense and frequently forced Nebraska to punt. 80 ~, -. Booths men had but six plays but they had these six down pat. A close formation was employed. the backs standing close to the line that the quarterback almost hidden from view With this formation almost the entire weight OF the team was thrown against the Colorado line, but after Nebraska had gained steadily for a while. Colorado held stubbor1lly, and thereafter. although the ball was in Boulder’s territory most Of the time, Nebraska. with all her weight, could carry 1t over until four minutes before the end Of the first half. The Rocky Mountain News, of Denver, thus sums up the work Of the Cornhuskers r. BENDER AND BENEDICT STARS. a feature of the game was the defense which each team put up against end runs. Boulder not having possession of the bali to any great extent, did not: have opportunity to try many end runs but those tried were stopped for losses or from three to five yards Nebraska was no more fort lnate with its end runs. In these plays the end was instructed with the ball, the halves never trying to carry it. s This gave a great line of interference and as the play swung into the open it difficult to how it could be broken up The line of interference swung almost the field before tempt. was made to cut it down. Failure to .work the END runs gave opportunity for some very pretty. tackling.. and it common thing to the man carrying the ball picked out from: behind his interference and thrown back several yards. -..., Benedict, freshman at Nebraska, and Benz der. an old player, were easily the stars of the game, and each put up exhibitions which would entitle him to play on the best team that has been seen in Colorado for many n day. Benethe days when the team came. out here and wal loped d. A. C., and he has the making of big college player. He did all the punting for the team, and on exchange of kicks he would out punt Rubidge by from fifteen to. twenty yards. Benedict also played back to receive the vanced it by some very pretty work. bowling over the men in front of him, lodging, jumping over and wrfggling through, until he would add from ten to fifteen yards to what he should have had. Bender was the man with the ball for Ne hraska. The manner in which he hit the line was astounding even to the Boulder rooters, who have seen many ferocious line buckers. Boulder’s only chance for a long run. and pos sibly a touchdown. was spoiled by this man. The ball was in Boulder’s possession and close to the side line VIII m the old. time Boulder fake ference was sent around the end toward the center Of the field. After it had moved away the man with the ball made dive for the hole close to the side line. The entire Nebraska team. with the exception of Bender. fooled by the trick. He saw the man standing there twinking got his man and threw him back fully three y:rlS’
